o2 and VOIP (Draytel)

Has anyone had trouble setting up VOIP on their o2 broadband? I opened up a Draytel account and have spend a few frustrated nights trying to set it up, i think it must be the ports. I cannot seem to open them, i have gone through the whole adding applications thing, and opening ports 5060 to 5065, but they still seem to be closed when i try a port checker online.

by the way, i followed this tutorial:

http://portforward.com/english/route...5/Voip.com.htm

Cheers

Re: o2 and VOIP (Draytel)

I assume you are using the supplied Thomson/Speedtouch router? If so then the SIP protocol is blocked by default.

I've just found this on a technical forum and this should work (I had to do this when I first had BE* and their BeBox):

click start > run > type telnet

type o 10.0.0.138 (assuming your Ip address of the modem is the default)
type in your username and password (check on the O2 website/forum for the new revised password - serial number or MAC address of the router from memory)
type nat bindlist
***You should see something like SIP 5060***
type nat unbind application=SIP port=5060
type config save
type system reboot

This allows traffic on port 5060

If you are using Vista you'll have to enable Telnet - Google i and you'll find out how.

Re: o2 and VOIP (Draytel)

Just found this:

Telnet into the O2 Broadband Router on IP Address 192.168.1.254 (this is the default)

Login as the SuperUser account (O2 Broadband Router « Burton on Trent Computer / Laptop Help)

and Type the commands :-

connection unbind application=SIP port=5060

saveall

Reboot router

Is that what you've tried?

Re: o2 and VOIP (Draytel)

Seems to suggest that the binding didn't exist - have you done the command to list all the bindings to see if 5060 has been bound?

I've used Draytel with both a softphone and a Linksys 941 through the Speedtouch after unbinding the SIP port with no problems so it's definately the router.

What you could try (thinking about it) is changing the port used by the client/phone to a different one from 5060 and seeing if that works - say 5061? (I have no idea if it will work though, and check on the Draytel FAQ's for any info on using a different port).

Re: o2 and VOIP (Draytel)

You should now be able to use the standard settings now the port is unbound, nothing special needed.

Are you using X-lite? If so here's the guide: http://www.draytel.org/software_setup.html#xlite

Re: o2 and VOIP (Draytel)

Nope, just needed to unbind the SIP port and reboot the router and away it went.

What's happening now? Is it logging in? Have you checked the settings/username/password etc? Is there an error message?

Lol! You would still have needed to unbind the SIP port though.

Happy calling!

Re: o2 and VOIP (Draytel)

i would not touch Draytel. They have taken 20quid from my card not charged my account and taken a week to tell me they are not going to refund the money - I have taken the matter to trading standards and moved to SIPGATE. Draytel´s customer service is terrible !!

Interesting - not had a problem with them and they are about to redefine their services and launch a new website etc.

Funny thing is my clients have had problems with Sipgate in that outgoing calls are fine but most of the time people can't call in (they get messages like "number unobtainable" etc etc)

Horses for courses etc

DRAYTEL´s customer service is terrible

Yep, payment made last Thursday still trying to get my money back .. they won´t refund it OR add it to my account.

No telephone access to customer services and they take ages to reply to email (when they bother to reply).

I know it´s only twenty quid - but I was counting on VOIP saving me money, not loosing it !!

And of course DRAYTEL don´t take Paypal like SIPGATE, at least I would have had another avenue to follow ....

VOIP quality of service

As for service quality - I have found both to work equally well with no problems connecting or inbound service.

My kit is ...

Option ICON 225 3G Dongle on ES Orange contract
Aztech HW550-3G 3G Router
LinkSys SPA1001 SIP Adapter
Connected to conventional Panasonic DECT phones and SKY (PACE DS440n) which performs callbacks for PPV with no problems.

The whole thing is connected to the mains via a large UPC UPS for when the power goes off (six hours backup).

NOTE: No access to ADSL, landline telephone is a telefonica RadioTrak.

Try emailing or calling Draytek - they are involved with Draytel and I think would be interested to know of your problems and they would get it sorted.

DRAYTEL and it´s terrible customer service

I have called Draytek and Telappliant (the peope who drive the billing side of the business) and no joy what-so-ever - they just say they are not responcable and tell me to email Draytel.

I even said to Telappliant, who is the ´merchant´ and actually ´takes´ the money from your bank account ...

"How can you NOT be responcible or NOT have control over payments you ACTUALLY take", but they just repeat ...

"Email Draytel"

I tell you, these guys are great untill you have a billing issue, but when you do ... they ain´t gonna help and you´ll loose your money - you can´t even take them to ´small claims´because the amount is to small.

Mind you, I learnt my lesson -

If a company looks really cheap and doesn´t display ANY geographical contact info. such as customer service phone numbers ect. then if you have a problem you are not going to get your money back.
