stair light triggers

Hi everyone
Really need some help with this, ive brought a led stair lighting controller, and im looking for different ways to trigger the lights on, the kit came with infered sensors but i think they will be difficult to mount on my stairs so i was thinking bout some pressure mats but all ive found are ones that are for alarms only like in maplins.
Can anyone surgest where i could find pressue mats for turning lights on?

Re: stair light triggers

Why not just put them on a timer so they only come on when it's dark and stay on?

Re: stair light triggers

Thanks aussietech an john7 for your replies.
the stairs on the web page you sent is what im trying to achieve but without the glass stair treads, so thank you again ill give them a call an ask them about there pressure mats.
As for putting them on a timer i had thought of that before but didnt fancy the idea of them being on all night, as only want them on as an when they are needed like getting up in the night, but thank you again for your reply.

Re: stair light triggers

What about a PIR sensor from an exterior security lamp ? Some come in different shapes . I have a round globe type one rated at 2000w . It's just a black ball with a lens at the front , this can be mounted anyware to sense movement and switch on , timed from a seconds to quite afew minutes .You could wire it up to a transformer if you needed a reduced voltage to power some LED's etc. Check out the different types on that well known auction site .
