home phone help?

I've been hunting recently for a new cordless home phone. Got a Binatone one a few months ago, and it's the biggest pile of **** ever!

I've been looking at a Panasonic, but i'm at a bit of a loss when it comes too home phones.

I need something that has a rang of about 50m. As i tend to be in the Garden a fair bit. Yeah i know it's coming up to Winter, but i expect a good phone to last a good couple of years at least.

Thanks in advance for the advice.

Ah Binatone ...
No experience of Panasonic though they're supposed to be good; look for reviews.
I CAN heartily recommend the Siemens ... we recently got the AL185 twin cheap from Tesco at £35 with an answering machine built in. Basic but easy to use and the real "plus" is the sound quality which is MILES better than our old BT supposedly digital crackly thing!
Link here Unexpected error occurred - Tesco.Direct if you want a look.
Hope that helps.

Re: home phone help?

I have a Panasonic cordless phone/answering machine..

I did quite a bit of research before I bought, and that included going and trying a few handsets to see how they felt in use..

I can heartily recommend any of them, as they are all quite similar in feel, but with different functions and utilities..

I quite like being able to use the base station to make and receive handsfree calls, and also being able to use the handset to access messages etc stored on the base unit.. also works as an intercom, and it's easy to add more handsets.

I suppose much of this comes down to budget, but I use a couple of Bang & Olufsen BeoCom 6000's (Dect phones) and a BeoTalk 1200 (digital answerphone) which I have had since about 1999. I added a BeoCom 2 in 2008 and have 4 phones round the house. The range is brilliant (covers the whole of my garden) and the signal stays really clear.

They are really amazing phones, very stylish and well built, I paid £325 for the BeoCom 6000's in 2000 and can sell them for £200 now (second hand). The BeoTalk 1200 cost £160 new in 2000 and goes for £120 now (second hand) and the BeoCom 2 cost £270 in 2008 and sells for more than that (second hand).

I know that may seem a huge outlay, but over 10 years, to have a stunning phone system, and the ability to sell it for a very good price, makes it worth while to me. You will always get some money back if/when you decide to change.

It is worth looking at some of the auction sites to see what you can get. They really are a cut above the standard phones.
