Hi Folks,
Can anyone tell Me if the Sky Sagem ADSL Router is VOIP Enabled?
I moved over to Sky from BT Broadband Option 3 for the Superior Download speeds, I am getting over twice my previous speed for around £13 a month less.
I have an Active Broadband Talk account and have seen on the BT website that the Broadband can be supplied by any Service Provider not just BT. I have had trouble getting point through to the BT Sales Staff in India, even though I got them to read the BT Website 'What do I need to use BT Broadband Talk?' section.
I had to escalate this problem to the Chairman and also to the CEO of BT, who have confirmed that you can indeed have Broadband Talk, but your Router must be VOIP Enabled.

VOIP stands for "Voice Over Internet Protocol" ( anyone correct me if I'm wrong) I beleive that this works with any modem/router as it's the same data as the internet

Your response from BT is a typical laymans response to the question. However it is an academic question because you can use any modem/router as long as you can configure it. Problem with 'free' modems is they tend to have cut down firmware allowing less scope for changing settings or parameters.

I've got one of the older Netgear Routers made for Sky Broadband and it is most definitely VoIP enabled - works brilliantly with Skype! I guess the newer Sagem Routers will have similar characteristics.

Thanks Folks for the feedback. I have had another reply from BT and they have now changed their mind again. They now state that you CANNOT have Broadband Talk if you get your broadband from someone else, and that they are going to update their website to that effect. So much for the word from the top executives.
I have been recommended www.freespeech.co.uk as an excellent VOIP provider. I will now give them a try. I am also thinking about the Thomson 716W wireless ADSL/VOIP Router which has two phone sockets 4 Ethernet and 1 USB port.
Has anyone had anyexperience of that particular ADSL modem?

I've been using Thomson routers for the past three years for the purpose of VOIP. I have a corded phone plugged in which works perfectly fine using voipcheap. As the Thomsons are quite an old model, reliability isn't is the greatest. For the price, and if you get a good one, they work as intended.

I've got a Sagem F@st 2504 (I think that is the number) Sky modem and it is fine. I use it for VOIP and Skype VOIP both through the PC and also in connection with a Philips DECT 321 dual Skype phone.
