Voip Newbee

Ok, Im looking at running a small business but dont want to give my home phone number out and having a 2nd line installed is an expese I could do without, also using a 0845 / 0870 I feel will put people off, so I was looking at getting an internet phone.

I looked at Skype but they dont seem to have any phone numbers to buy which has a 01622 area code so Skype are out of the question, I looked at Sipgate but when I dialed in and heard the voicemail it put me off straight away, the audio quality was very bad.

Im now on the verge of registering with Tesco internet phone, main advantage is they offer a pay as you go service so I can give it a try for little outlay.

Now my questions:

I will be forwarding the calls to my mobile I know this will cost me around 10p a minute but I just wondered what sort of audio quality should I exepect?

Im with Virgin Media and wondered if they offer any kind of Voip, if not they must be the only company that dont.

Thanks

I assume you are talking about the test message, if so yes it's a very poor advert for Sipgate, but if you record your own message the quality is 100%. Sipgate user for about three years on VM cable. Sipgate also offer a PAYG service, I use it.

VM have their own PSTN type network so that's probably why they don't offer VoIP.

Finallly have you seen this? Free BT line install for a limited period.

Audio quality should be fine, especially if you are forwarding calls as they won't actually touch the internet unless that is where calls originate.

They don't as far as I know but they could if it offered them any real advantage. I doubt it does seeing as they have fingers in so many other pies (TV, Telephone, Mobile, Broadband).
