Anyone into surface RC

I have been into rc for alot off years started with leccy cars then a leccy heli but it cost me a fortune so i moved back into surface rc bought a Schumacher Rascal its was an awesome littler 1:16 scale car and was really fast,
i have had a load of other nitro cars and buggys since then but recently i bought a Baja ss kit they are the nuts does anyone else have anything similiar?

Heres my Junk Yard Dogg!!!

Re: Anyone into surface RC

Nice pics man, looks big in the pics what scale is that one 8th?.
yeah used to be into it a lot, Had similar buggy in the past cant remember it's name just now will come to me. Not had petrol/nitro ones tho.
Here's mine, not been used properly for years (as u can tell them tyres not been on tarmac, lol) and is quite old, mayb 15yrs. was used a lot in the past and loved it.
It was a Tamiya Mondeo BTCC till i bought cossie shell etc. Pics show faults and photo's done inside makes paint look bad colour but still for it's age it's in great condition and i was young when built it...

Thumbs up Re: Anyone into surface RC

Kool pics there m8,

My baja is 1/5 scale 32" long its 2 stroke far cheaper to run the a nitro i have been down the route and wouldnt go back as i had to mail order fuel and at £30 for 5 litres its just not worth it,

unlike the 2 stroke only £5 for 5 liters and a bit of oil i am saving money everytime i fill it up lol,

I race 1/10th electric tourers and started out with buggies, but your Baja looks very cool.

The nearest I can get is my "Savvy", great fun for any type of ground

Hi cybermenace,

Damn it I love the BAJA, I've had my eye on a Traxxas Revo for a while now, but that thing looks awesome!! How fast does that thing go?

Re: Anyone into surface RC

Thanks but I'm in Southampton, so it would be quite a drive!!

One thing that would put me off a little bit is having to build it. I used to be a mechanic about 8 years ago, but I just don't know whether I'd get time to build something like that now days. How long does it take?

Re: Anyone into surface RC

Brilliant, I'd be keen to meet and have a watch of one in action. I'm in no position to buy anything at the moment, as I'm getting married and have lots of AV stuff still to pay for.

If you wouldn't mind asking him and PM-ing me any details if he doesn't mind.

The RTR kit isn't the big beasty one though is it?? got to have the best one

Re: Anyone into surface RC

the differences between the rtr version and the kit is:-

1.rtr - 23cc engine - kit 26cc engine
2.rtr - muffler exhaust - kit has a tunned pipe
3.rtr - standard shocks kit - kit vvc heavy duty shock set (Which is a must have)
4.rtr - standard rear shock brace - kit modified rear shock brace
5.rtr - standard servos - kit has a powerfull steering servo but needs a t/b servo at extra cost
6.rtr - has no anti roll bars - kit has the roll bar set
7.rtr - is purple anodized - kit is gun metal anodized
8.rtr - only needs petrol and the battery charged and away you go -
kit needs a t/b servo, radio gear tx and rx,battery, charger, failsafe and petrol and oil and away you go,

It could be a few more things but i thinks thats it

its sounds like a lot of hard work but its really worth it in the end

Cheers for that, I'll have to see what cash I've got after the wedding.... I have to admit I’d prefer to get the daddy!

Once they're built are they fairly reliable?

Re: Anyone into surface RC

the daddy is th one to go for you can pick up a 2nd hand baja ss on ebay for around £650 + depehnding on what radio gear is with it,

I have had mine for over a year now and only had minor repairs its like anything if you look after it it will last forever,

these beasts are built to last my old savvy i was forever buying new spur gears for it and shock shafts but my baja has only had 1 shock shaft in a year touch wood i go out with about 3-4 times per week i only used my savvy at weekends and it got damaged more

Re: Anyone into surface RC

Just starting out in this since having an ancient porsche when I was a little'un.

Now got an e-firestorm flux which is a lot of fun, and I'm in the middle of building a modern tamiya porsche kit.

I also have someone making me a replica of my old car - should be with me next week hopefully!

So I'll soon need a shed to hide them away from the missus in. Especially if I start lusting after an e-revo or e-savage flux

You can buy a clone take the engine out and replace it with the baja ss engine and fully hop them up for the price of an origianl baja ss and it will be hopped up to the nuts and no one would ever know the difference
People do buy these
Petrol Radio Controlled Cars - ShengQi 1/5th Scale Petrol Radio Controlled Baja Buggy

Then get all the hopups from MMR HPI Baja 5B & SS Hopups

Re: Anyone into surface RC

They do look nice, and be nice to build. Couldnt pay that for one tho especially at the moment being a bit skint.

What kind of weight are they? never seen any data.
That one you linked to has 2.15bhp so could end up with some rather lovely bhp/ton power to weight ratios.

The one in the above link is no comparssion to the real thing as its a clone and the engine is nowhere near as fast or as powerfull as the real thing HPI Baja 5B SS Buggy Kit its the best rc car i have ever had i can also say they take so much punuishment and still come back for more ,

the weight i think i about 9k and i think the Baja SS puts out 5.2BHP dephending on the correct tunned pipe a nice lot of power to flying around the school fields,

Check out some of toppers videos on youtube he has his out all the time and some good quality videos YouTube - toppertopp's Channel

Your FG Baja could do with some dirt on it,
it looks brand new i thought about the fg baja before i went for the hpi baja ss ,
i would still like to have one but that will have to when i get some funds again as i have been made redundant

sorry to hear that mate. Don't get much of a chance to take them out tbh and it's always dry when I do so they don't get too dirty. The baja I actually bought 2nd hand off ebay £400 with all radio gear and the mods (prosport pipe, diff cover, alloy wing, filter, shock covers) already done
