Question Which Digi Box Should I Buy Now After Same Old Problem

Hi Everyone,

Wish you all a happy and healthy new year!

Since my last post cple of months ago when I replaced the Hitachi HDB73 HDMI from Argos with the same model, after the first one kept on switching itself off, Ive got the same problem with this one when I use Teletext specifically ITV channels and Ch4, it bizarrely switches itself off!

I rang Argos Head Office to clarify my entitlement and was told that I can either get a Refund or Vouchers from a store, or get another model in exchange and pay the difference if I have to. My local Argos (East London) is a small one with limited stock and a lot of the other Argos stores are out of stock of a lot of the Freeview brands.

I am happy to have a simple Box, functional and decent quality, not bothered about having 2 Scart sockets etc.

Therefore if I do decide to get one from Argos in exchange or use a voucher, in terms of availability, I can probably get hold of one of the following 2 models:

Sagem ITD68:

Acoustic Solutions DTR-205

Buy Acoustic Solutions DTR-205 Setanta Set Top Box. at Argos.co.uk - Your Online Shop for .

1) Would you recommend any of these two boxes?

2) If not, can you recommend any other boxes at a reasonable price (I would've considered buying Asda's Duraband for £15 after reading good f back including here, but they have apparently stopped selling them)?

Sorry for the long post!

Thank you.

Regards,

Jay

Oddly enough our Sky box does that, switches itself off after accessing Teletext.

I've been looking through Ebay for a Pioneer or Sony freeview box.

Re: Which Digi Box Should I Buy Now After Same Old Problem

I have several asda durabrand boxes different versions and they are ok apart from one of them where capacitors in the the inbuilt power supply had dried out due lack of vents in the top of the box it was easily repaired and is working ok.
The other versions have the psu in the plug so thats not a problem and they work ok,My uncle recently bought a logic freeview box from comet it's a vestel box but the case is bigger than the asda boxes and is also metal and there's plenty space in it which i think is very good because ventilation is very important with digital equipment.

Hi Everyone,

I returned the Argos Hitachi HDB73 Freeview Box, the second one I've returned, and they refunded me with a Gift Voucher.

I'm thinking about buying the Daewoo DSD800M:

I just want something simple, but reliable.

Can anyone please offer some guidance in regards to what they think of it and might've heard about it?

Thank you.

Regards,

Jay

Perhaps you could select a freeview box from the R & T List.

Freeview set-top boxes in the UK

The freeview boxes I have Grundig and Sagem are now listed with the older boxes. The Daewoo DSD800M must be a new model. It looks to be OK for specification and price of £18-90 with free delivery. Take a chance.
