Hi am1983,
Only ever connected mine to a flash drive, never had this problem.Could be usb power or data issue, are using a bus or mains powered drive, if so which one?, this might give an indication as to what is going wrong to those using a similar setup.
Regards, s

Hi

I am using a mains powered 500gb maxtor ext hard disk. The hdfv is connected to the tv via my denon reciever. It does record at the set times but the recording is just a black screen with no sound.

Any thoughts.

I have a 2 gig flash drive - I will try it and see what happens.

Any thoughts.

Works fine with the flash drive. Shame about the hard drive not working. Thanks for your help.

Some sort of setting or incompatibility?
Sometime soon, I will try a LaCie, and a no name external powered drive, though I'm sure that a bus powered one will need to be purchased for capacity/convenience and quietness. The 32gb flash drive, currently used, is filled up quite quickly recording hi def progs, these are watched every couple of weeks, or so - the HDFV fills in for our Sky Hd clashes
