Unhappy Matsui 1414R will not find Freeview box

I have a Matsui 1414R. Prior to Winter Hill switchover I was using an old On Digital box for Freeview which worked perfectly well. I have had to discard this box, of course, and have now acquired one from a friend, which worked perfectly well for him and works perfectly well on my other tv's. The Matsui, however, doesn't seem to want to find it -or another, different brand, box I have tried. When turning the tv on it automatically goes to AV mode but I can only see a feint, italicised, moving "ghost" image of the info banner which would be at the bottom of the screen for a few seconds when changing channels, but no picture. Pressing the channel selector does seem to alter the image. Viewing the analogue image via the Freeview box RF loop produces a good picture. I've tried an aerial booster to no effect. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

So this un-named/unknown box aquired from a friend works OK with your other TV's but not the Matsui.

Therefore the un-named box must be OK which narrows the problem down to the Matsui or the scart connection between AV1 of the Matsui and the un-named box connection which may have two output scarts TV (RGB) and VCR (composite). I wonder what input the Matsui provides on AV1 (can it be configured between RGB and video (composite).

Is the scart lead between the TV and this un-named box faulty? Try it with a known good lead. Make sure the connections in the sockets are fully home.

Also see if you can access the functions of this ? box by use of the menu button and try a rescan for channels. If you cannot access the onscreen menu then I would think the scart lead is faulty.

Good for you.

Trial and error always the best way of finding problems. It helps if you just happen to have a few spare leads and a known good freeview box spare.
