Lost remote controls - are the STB's now useless?

Hi

My aunt's asked me to tune in 2 2nd hand STB's she was given, unfortunately the people who gave them to her threw the remotes away

The boxes are Duraband dvbt model CQ5660-M and OSTBO1.

I haven't seen them yet as I don't want to make too many long trips without having an idea if they will be any good!

Do these boxes still work? The numbers don't mean much to me as I've a dead Goodmans and a Panasonic HDD with built in Freeview, our other one is a Wharfedale/TVonics?

Will a replacement remote work do you think on either of them?

She and I have a couple of cheap remotes to try, I've a Kingavon, but I can't find the instructions yet

Any ideas so I don't waste too much time!!

Thanks

Speedee

I think that the other box is an ONN badged box, but it is probably better to buy a new box than waste money on a replacement remote only to find that the boxes no longer work.

Thanks

I will try there if I don't get anywhere. I must admit that the fact that when I click on there "Contact Us" or "Guarantee" page it doesn't work, doesn't fill me with much confidence though!!

The Duraband CQ5660-M was sold by Asda for £10 at one time when it was new and the Onn OSTBO1 for about £25. The Onn is a Vestel clone so many boxes use the same remote. However I got a Techwood from Morrison's last year (also a Vestel clone and same remote for £13 new). So really it's not worth spending £10 on a remote for each when new boxes complete with remote and twelve months guarantee are available for not much more money.

Thanks for the replies.

I think I will tell my aunt what you said, I was thinking along the same lines!

I found the instructions for my universal remote, but I think it pre-dates the the digiboxes!!

Thanks though

Don't get your hopes up too much, but if your Goodmans is a Vestel Freeview receiver it's handset will undoubtedly work many other boxes.
