I want to get a freeview box in my bedroom but i only have a portable ariel and its not great quality what would the picture be like on freeview ? Also what set top boxes would you reccomed ?

Impossible to say - depends on the strength & quality of the digital signal at your location; whether you can position the indoor aerial near a window facing in the direction of the transmitter from which you're receiving; & the actual indoor aerial. Don't blame if it doesn't work, but I've had reasonable results where I am with an aerial similar to this.

As for an actual Freeview box, there's not much to choose between them - so I'd advise going almost as cheap as possible (£20 or so) if you're not sure about your reception.
