running another two tvs from existing aerial

running another two tvs from existing aerial

hi guys i want to run another two tellys from an existing aerial that goes to my tv down stairs i have the cable coming down the outside wall to the main tv.

could i put a 4 way booster behind my main telly then run two cables up to the two rooms up the stairs?

Short answer - Yes. Splitting the signal 2 ways, you might not even need a booster (depending on the strength of the original signal), but 3 ways you probably do.

i thought the booster had to be as near to the aerial as possible?

If the signal is of poor quality to begin with, boosting it with this sort of booster might only amplify the defects, but with a reasonable signal it should be effective. (But I'm not "approving" this particular product - just using it as an example.)

That's when you need an amplifier because the signal is weak and to avoid amplifying intereference on the downlead. The OP wants an amplfied splitter which is a different animal. These are purely designed to allow the recovery of the loss in signal caused by splitting an otherwise OK signal.

If you dont want unsightly cables running up your inside walls then it would be neater to fit and external splitter near the aerial and drop two new cables to the bedrooms externally or through the loft.
If the signal isnt great (you may be able to see the signal strength on your tv/ freeview box) you'd be better off fitting a 4 output matshead amp & psu instead of the splitter.
