Pace Twin Digital Recorder-failed recordings

I bought this receiver in 2003 and shortly afterwards upgraded the hard disk for one with more capacity, since when it has worked fine. It has recently started to fail recordings, sometimes it will show as having recorded the entire programme, but after as little a 102 seconds or as long as 23 minutes the picture freezes. The counter continue to count down, but the programme does not play. About 50% of the time it records O.K. Although it is a twin tuner box, if we are watching another channel when it starts to record, the channel we are watching sometimes goes off and shows no signal. I am in the Granada region, with a good digital signal. We are in the process of changing to digital, and the scan for new channels has been carried out with no problems. Do you think it could be the hard disk, and would replacing it cure the problem or is it time to move on? Also which hard disk would fit? I expect the one already in which was a Fujitsu has long since been upgraded. Unfortunately I am unable to locate the original hard disk.

I can't give a definitive answer. However, if you have started Digital Switchover then there is a possibility that the box will not work fully afterwards. Anecdotal evidence from post-DSO areas is that there are some issues.

Pace say that in theory the set is capable of working, however they have not tested it and have no plans to.

The symptoms of your problem seem to imply either a tuner fault or a signal problem.

My bro-in-laws Freeview box is a Pace one - no harddisc

It now won't get BBC 1 or BBC 2

Pace pulled out of freeview a few years back so no software updates.

We are waiting here in the Granada we are waiting until the next channel changes in early DEc - but it looks like he wilhave to buy another box.

He still has his main Freeview TV as the box is used on a second set - so he can wait.

I've told him it's likely he will need to buy new.

Cheers, cooperda (daveac)
