Considering switch to Freeview+ Looking for recommendations for good recorder

I am seriously thinking of moving from Sky+ to Freeview+, and was looking around at some receivers/recorders.

Looking at some of the reviews it appears that the magazines love the Humax boxes, but I am slightly put off when I read some of the real user reviews.

Take this example on Amazon of the Humax 9300 box which would be a likely candidate for me to buy:
Humax PVR9300T 320GB Twin Tuner, PVR: Amazon.co.uk: Electronics & Photo

Look at some of the reviews on the right - would scare you !!

Are these people just plain wrong or are Humax boxes a bit hit and miss?

Since manufacturers have the ability to bug-fix and pretty much do most of testing on retail units these days thank to OTA firmware updating I don't think a reliable piece of mass market consumer electronics exists anymore.

Reading through the comments on that model indicate an issue after the retune which could be the transmitter and aerial setup not the box, fan noise could simply be a dodgy fan and yes there will be lemons

Pay a visit to the PVR forum for more comments on various models.

My elderly 9200 has been fine but it's not as good as the Toppy 5800 which thanks to the capability to add features using taps is amazingly versatile
