Do i need RF cable?

Apoligies for the noob question.

Have just purchased new LCD tv with built-in freeview, spec link here

Been trying to scan for freeview channels with none found. Question is, do i need to connect an RF cable from the TV to the outside aerial to do this?

I checked my area on the Freeview website and i should be getting dozens of channels.

Thanks for any replys.

Yes of course. Freeview is received on a uhf aerial exactly the same as analogue TV. All uhf TV is transmitted on channels 21 to 68, each channel is a single frequency carrier signal that your aerial picks up. The uhf frequency has information added in a process known as modulation. An analogue TV station has one station per channel, because the information on a carrier being used for freeview is digital more than one tv station and radio station can be mixed multiplexed onto the same carrier. A single uhf carrier carrying multiple digital stations is known as a mux. Assuminmg your local transmitter still has analogue your aerial will be receiving up to 5 analogue modulated uhf channels for BBC 1,2,ITV 1, CH4, CH5 and 6 digital modulated uhf channels for all the freeview TV and radio stations.

You most certainly do need to connect to the outside aerial via RF co-axial cable. Also to make sure you receive a good signal you should use satellite grade co-axial cable. Also use good quality co-axial leads for connections to TV. The white thin co-ax leads "made in China" are not very good quality.

It doesn't state on your link but this TV has both analogue & digital tuners so it will autoscan on both tuners at setup.
When fully tuned you will have to select which tuner you wish to use. This could be either separate buttons on the remote control or it could be done by selecting from the "menu".
