A PVR is a recorder which only records from its own internal tuners (ie not from an external source) & normally has twin tuners, allowing recording of two channels at the same time, or recording one & watching one at the same time.

A DVD/HDD recorder will record from an external source (eg a satellite or cable box) & these days most have an internal Freeview tuner from which it can record. However, no Freeview DVD/HDD recorder has twin tuners.

If you're referring to Freesat recorders, then the Panasonic Blu-ray players/recorders do have twin Freesat tuners, but they are rather expensive.

PS Just noticed that you specified HD - in fact, at present there are no Freeview HD receivers or recorders on the market - the Freesat Panasonic recorders referred to above are of course HD.

This is effectively the only class of machine that meets the specification.

As Geofbob says - they are based on Freesat reception.
