Anyone having trouble with a humax 9200?

Hiya folks,

Ever since the most recent freeview retune, my Humac 9200 recorder seems to be having trouble. it often decides to stop responding to IR commands from the remote or button presses, but it's still playing a show with full audio and video. sometimes it responds later, sometimes not at all.

this is especially annoying as I have it unplug it to bring it back. I've defaulted it and started again at least twice so far and not had much luck.

today I went and deleted a whole bunch of useless channels to see if that helps at all.

I really don't want to buy a new recorder now, as we're supposed to be getting HD Freeview in the Granada region soon and there's no suitable decoders/recorders out yet. If I'm gonna buy a new one, I'd rather get a HD recorder.

so, is it just me, or is anyone else having similar trouble?

David

Humax software engineers are working on a fix.
Manchester, so do you receive from Winter Hill, which has recently begun DSO?
Do a defaults setting, then halt the automatic channel scan and do manual scans on five of the six mux (UHF channels) - avoid scanning Mux B.

Re: Anyone having trouble with a humax 9200?

thanks for the response. I am in Manchester and Winter Hill is the big transmitter round here.

I've defaulted, and stopped the auto-scan but now I go into the Manual Search it just asks me for channel/frequency and the network search option. Is there a website that tells me which frequencies I should be scanning on to find the muxes I want and avoid the one I don't want? I'm struggling to find something helpful.

many thanks

David

Re: Anyone having trouble with a humax 9200?

There's a massive thread on this problem here :

9200T getting slower and slower. - Page 17 - Humax - Digital Spy Forums

Some people have returned their Humax for a refund - I may have to do this too as there isn't long left on the warranty and who knows if Humax will actually solve the problem?

I'm having exactly the same problems, have fired of an email to humax asking if they are going to fix the problem.

This has nothing to do with the duplicate channels as i don't have any and did a complete default reset.

Re: Anyone having trouble with a humax 9200?

For info - I sent Humax an email too asking if there is a solution because I will have to return it for refund if not. They have just replied...

"Firstly I will apologies for all the inconvenience you have received recently.

At the moment a problem has occurred in regards to the nations retune with our boxes. Some of the faults are that the boxes are locking up, delayed remote response and EPG/Guide problems. We have got engineers working on the matter at the moment to resolve this as quickly as possible.

You are one of few customers experiencing this problem, what we are doing is releasing an over the air software update that will download automatically over night to the boxes. There is no confirmed date as to when this will be but it should be some time this month. If the problems persist after this, please contact us on 0844 669 8800.

Sorry for any inconvenience caused

Best Regards,

James

fyonn, I'm experiencing the exact same symptoms as you. I'm in the Mcr region, about 8 miles East. Winter Hill transmitter.

Getting the *very* delayed responses as well as mixed channel information in the guide. It's great to see that Humax have acknowledged the problem - that's half the battle.

I love the Humax, but along with these issues, I have regularly problems recording. The recordings start to fail with c.80 free capacity on the HD. I have to 'format' it from the menus, but I reckon I've got a faulty HD as the fault inevitably returns after a month or so. Any other forum members had the same problem ?

I'm waiting for Freeview-HD, but there's no sign (I believe) of a Humax Freeview-HD PVR yet. For enjoying the Humax interface and ease of use, it'd have to be a bullet proof piece of kit for me to invest in a HD PVR. My g/f is ready to throw the current thing out of the window ... (!)

Having read through most of the thread on digitalspy I took the sum of the advice and did the following (Winter Hill transmitter) :

0. Made a note of programmes timed to record
1. Ran the default settings and stopped it as soon as the tuning started.
2. Manually tuned 56, 62, 63, 66 and 68
3. Deleted programmes I knew I didn't want
4. Removed all the radio programmes
5. Switched the unit off at the mains for more than half an hour.
6. Re-setup the programmes I wanted recording.

Using the Humax tonight I didn't have any response issues with the remote. So far so good.

Not an ideal solution but maybe enough until Humax sort it better - which they may not if it is just an underpowered processor.

My HUMAX 9200-T starts up Ok from standby, but after a few seconds, the picture freezes and after a few more, the sound disappears. The usual cure for faults, switching off the power then switching back on again after the disk stops, just repeats the behaviour. It seems to be able to play recorded stuff OK, although it has to be switched off/started up again after each recording. Sounds like a software fault to me. Any ideas?

That sounds more like you need to do a full reset. Make a note of the programmes you have got set to record and do a full system reset (default settings) on it and see if it helps. You won't lose your recrodings but you will lose any settings you had made which are different to default (including any recording schedules you had).

Thanks Searcher2. Tried it, but still the same. Incidentally, I'm in Berkshire and picking up a London transmitter, not Winter Hill like most of the unfortunates. My problems started on the 17th.

DON'T PANIC.
The cure for this is relatively simple.

Thumbs up 9200-T freezing

Thanks, nvingo, it worked!. You may have saved a marriage.
Funny that Humax never replied to my e-mail a few days ago. Probably too busy.
