signal issues with Freeview

I recently upgraded my TV to a Samsung from a Sharp.

I had a reasonable number of freeview channels before but now there are fewer

When I add a booster (with a variable control) I can get the channels i lost but then lose the channels i had

so in all, I can get all the channels i originally had, but have to get up and adjust the booster when changing channels!

what's going on? is there anything i can do to get back to where i was with the sharp TV - i.e. channels on all the time?
