Welcome to the forum.

If you have good reception from the aerial already with just one TV, then all you require would be a distribution amplifier with at least 5 outlets [ six is typical for a domestic amp ]

If the reception is on the cusp, you may additionally need a masthead amplifier which would feed into the distribution amplifier and would be supplied with power from it, via the coax downlead.

The loft is a typically good location for a distribution amp.

Re: running five tv's from one aerial

yes the aerial that is already there has good reception ,it's already got one of those cheapo splitters and there are 2 two tv's running from it and the picture quality is good.
so i need something like this:
Simply Aerials & Satellite

are they all about the same or is there particular one that you would recomend

I dare say that's OK - but I've never encountered that type before.

Have a look at the top two ranges on this page.

i've thought of another problem i dont have any power in the loft so this would mean having a socket installed or is it possible to use a masthead amp and then into some kind of splitter as the masthead can be powered from near one of the tv's ?

Re: running five tv's from one aerial

i've just got all the tv's in the house linked up to the main ariel today with a 4 way mast head splitter from arielsandtv.com, got a 50m roll of their satellite grade coax and some coax plugs. doing the job was pretty straightforward, hardest bit was routing the cables through the loft to the rooms and getting on the roof lol. i'd recommend them, great service and the stuff looks quality gear, nice clear pictures all round now

You've really answered your own question as the power supply is located where convenient and the power is fed to the amp through the same coax cable that carries the signal

See the attachment from the link I gave earlier

But you don't need a masthead amp??? ... and therefore do not require power to be fed to it.
You said your signal strength was good.

A distribution amplifier can be located anywhere convenient...[ where there is a socket ]
I only suggested the loft because it tends to be the easiest from the point of view of cabling and distribution.

if i have the distribution amplifier where i already have a power socket it would have to be in a bedroom or downstairs next to the tv so i would have aerial leads all over the place , thats why i thought if i used a masthead amp although you are i right i don't need one i could get the power up to the aerial without a need for a socket in the loft.....i'm all confused now

The only reason power up to the aerial is required is if you have a masthead amplifier.

As you do not seem to need one, there is no need to get power up to it.

Therefore your only problem is choosing a suitable location for a distribution amplifier - The requisites being, that it is a place which has a mains socket nearby, can have the main aerial feed into it, and is a central 'hub location from which you can easily lead the five distribution cables.
