Cannot Find Freeview Channels on new TV

Hi,
I took delivery of my new LG22LH2000 TV today and have set up BBC1,BBC2, ITV, CH4 & CH5, but cannot tune in any Freeview channels, although it has built-in Freeview.

My old TV (a CRT Ferguson) with a cheap Tesco Freeview box gave brilliant reception for most of the channels, and the signal strength was nearly always very strong.

Can anybody with an LG TV help at all?

Thanks.

Sorry - meant to say that I have tried both auto & manual tuning.

Re: Cannot Find Freeview Channels on new TV

You're probably not switched to the Digital tuner...look for a button marked A/D or similar...if all else fails read the user manual.

Re: Cannot Find Freeview Channels on new TV

I've read the manual - otherwise I wouldn't have been able to get as far as I have. The manual doesn't appear to mention Freeview, and I can't find a button marked A/D.

I would just say that the manual is nearly 200 pages long, it relates to every TV that LG make and is therefore very confusing. Added to which it comes on a CD which means you can't just sit down in front of the TV with the manual in front of you - I've spent most of the day going backwards & forwards from the PC in the study to the TV in the lounge.

Re: Cannot Find Freeview Channels on new TV

I think it's marked TV/RAD just press a few times to switch between TV, DTV and Radio.

Thanks Adrian, found that button but it doesn't seem to do anything.

I'm just about ready to throw it out of the window so I'm switching off now and will have another try tomorrow!

Use the TV/RAD button and set it to DTV...then select "Menu", "Setup" and then "Auto Tuning".
If that doesn't do it use the "Reset" function as detailed on page 73.

No good, that button just doesn't have any effect, and p73 in my manual is all about 'skipping' a programme number.

Re: Cannot Find Freeview Channels on new TV

Page 53 of the downloadable manual deals with 'Auto Tuning'
SETUP > AUTO TUNING

You can get it here
LG Product Support for 22LH2000

This may not be relevant but the OP states
"...gave brilliant reception for most of the channels, and the signal strength was nearly always very strong..."

The words 'most' and 'nearly always' may be a clue?

Re: Cannot Find Freeview Channels on new TV

I've tried again setting up from scratch, both auto & manual and still no joy. Get the usual 5 channels fine but no Freeview.

Searching through previous threads here I did come across two others with exactly the same problem with LG TVs - 1 person was taking their TV back and the other got the same response from other posters, i.e. you should be able to auto tune, but both the threads died at that point so I don't know the outcome. A similar query on Fixya but no response there.

Well - I've just spoken to LG technical support and the guy I spoke to was really good. It just needed the aerial plugging direct into the TV, putting back to factory settings, then auto tuning and then replacing the aerial into the back of the DVD recorder. And everything is fine!

Thanks for trying to help.

Re: Cannot Find Freeview Channels on new TV

So, when you first tried to tune in the channels, you had the aerial daisy-chained from the recorder to the TV, & it worked for analogue, but not for Freeview? If this was the problem, it could account for other Freeview tuning problems aired in these forums. & might be worth noting.

...which suggests you have a poor quality flylead from the DVDR to TV.

Yes, exactly, and on checking in set-up the 'booster' was off at that time. Once plugged direct into the TV the 'booster' was on and all channels were automatically tuned in correctly. Even the channel numbers were in the right place. (I had to move them when I did the initial tuning). Result!
