Which Freesat Recorder for Parent

Hi,

My is currently paying for sky but doesn't use anything other than sky+.

She wants to switch to freesat.

Can you guide me on which box to get and where from that will be nice and easy to use and also have a harddisk for recording.

She has a standard def TV, so no need for HDTV etc.

Cheers
Steve.

There is at present only one cheapish PVR (£250 to 300) - the Humax Foxsat HDR.

As Dave has posted there is only one Freesat PVR available.

Is freeview not available in her area ? as Freeview PVR's are substantially cheaper.

Are you sure they are on Freesat ?. All the available fta channels are not on the freesat epg. You can add all fta channels in non freesat mode but you lose all the convenience of series recording, setting a recording from the epg. In nonfreesat mode only manual recording is possible. There are a few channels on freeview not available fta on satellite so can't be watched without a sky box with a card.

Re: Which Freesat Recorder for Parent

If you have timers set and then switch to non-freesat mode, the timers are wiped and you have to set them again. Can be quite annoying, especially if you have lots of things set.

There are better channels on Freeview than on Freesat. You can't get Dave, TMF, Yesterday, Sky 3, 4 Music and others through Freesat but you can on Freeview.

You should check what channels you both want to receive and watch the most and base your decision on that. Freeview, if available, might suit you better.

That's not true. Entering freesat mode and recording or watching does not delete freesat recording reservations. Only adding/moving/deleting or other messing with the list of channels does that. Once you set up your nonfreesat channels you can go in and out as much as you want to watch/record without loss of freesat programme reservations
