Satellite (freesat) alignment in London SE

Hi all,

Does anybody here know somebody in SE (SE26 to be precise) in London to help me with my satellite dish....??? Please!!!! It was working after installation months ago but now I have finally TV and can’t make it work. Maybe it’s not as easy with KRP-500A receiver as plug and play. I have contacted the company which was installing it in the first place but they want again £80 for it (the same as for whole installation with satellite dish etc.). Anybody can help me for less ;-)

Thanks.

The KRP-500A looks like it does not have a satellite tuner so it can't work with a dish without some sort of external satellite stb (Freesat, Sky or Generic FTA)

It was pretty much plug and play with my KRP-500A. There was some sort of scan procedure to go through but it was all very obvious. Sorry can't be more precise, it's ages since I did it.

It's not a Freesat compliant tuner of course but it will get all the FS channels apart from ITV HD and more besides.

So it has the review I read said only terrestrial tuner, now found it on the pioneer website

Pioneer KRP-500A - www.pioneer.co.uk

Does the TV have some sort of signal strength and quality display when in sat mode. Most will have some sort of set up menu that includes a scan of whatever grp of satellites your dish is pointing at. Page 33 of your manual tells you how to do a manual scan of a sat grp.

Does your dish point at Astra2? i.e. 28.2 degrees East. Assuming it does then your KRP-500A will pickup all FTA programmes. Follow the setup instructions onscreen for satellite tuning and it should work. If not post what you did and what happened so it will be easier to assist you.
I have a satellite dish connected to my KRP-500A TV so know it works without any problems. Great choice of TV by the way.

Re: Satellite (freesat) alignment in London SE

Thanks guys!!!

Just got Humax Freesat HD box to test it and after connection and automated scan everything worked perfect!!!! What's going on! All the channels, BBC HD – perfect. Which means the satellite is align properly. Signal strength and quality both 100% or around. Hmmmm. Has to be something with my Pio or I don’t know how to set it up. Humax scans straight away while with Pio you need to set everything manually (I mean before scan – satellite, and some other options which I don’t know how). Anybody knows exacts settings before running the scan?

Thanks

Re: Satellite (freesat) alignment in London SE

Have you set the TV to receive satellite programmes as instructed in the manual?

Read pages 19 and 20, then page 33 to page 52.

Try and give more information on what you have tried to do. Just saying it does not work is not much use. It is not plug and play, you have to follow the instructions in the setup menu. If there are any settings your not sure of just ask, I'm sure someone here will provide the answers as long as you ask the questions first.

Good luck.

Re: Satellite (freesat) alignment in London SE

Thank you all for the replies....

The manual I went through nothing strange there - everythnig seems to be straight farward.

Anyway, the main problem I think is that SMATV function doesn't work. When I choose that (for it to scan everything regardless of antenna settings) it displays an error that there is scort circut in the aerial cable - while there is not. I mean how can it be. Humax worked fine with it.

Finally managed to scan manually Astra1 then Astra 2 etc. (had to choose manually satellte and then scan and then change to the next one and scan again). Found like 2000 channels (I belive most of them are not watchable anyway) but I can't seem to find BBC HD! Where is it? Did anybody else experienced problems with SMATV setting?

Don't know what to do... Not sure if everything is fine with the unit of not (media receiver).

BBC HD is on Astra2D, 10847 22000 5/6, you should also get Luxe HD from Eurobird 1 on 12643 27500 2/3 (assuming you have a HD capable tuner)

Re: Satellite (freesat) alignment in London SE

Hi Stone28, When I tried SMATV I had the same warning message about a short circuit. Instead of that or a manual tune I recommend you do the following.

Where the SMATV option is right click until the ALL FREQUENCIES option shows, then use that and ASTRA2 to tune in all the channels. Amongst loads of unwanted channels (which you can delete later) you will find BBC HD, its number is 0032 by the way.

Good luck.

Make sure you select ASTRA2 and it should work, did when I installed my KRP-500A.

Let us know how you get on tonight.

Re: Satellite (freesat) alignment in London SE

So you get all the FTA satellite stations except BBC HD. Very strange as I have the same setup and BBC HD is available to me.

Only thing I can suggest stone28 is that you list all the steps you go through when setting up the TV for satellite stations, listing what options you chose when various choices were available. I'll check if your inputs match what I did and point out any that are different.

I have three HDMI cables connected to the Media Receiver and no SCART cables (clutching at straws here) Might help if you say if you altered any of the picture controls as well.

Silly question, but you have checked all the satellite stations as if I remember rightly BBC HD was way down the list, not near the start with BBC1 and BBC2 etc. (could be wrong here as it is a while since I did my setup) I'm guessing you have Freeview as well as Freesat connected, if so it is easy to list the digital stations instead of the satellite ones which would explain why no BBC HD. Sorry, that sounds a bit patronising, but said with good intentions.

I'd come along and help you but I am 800 miles from London so a bit too far to travel.

Re: Satellite (freesat) alignment in London SE

OK, so here you go ;-) I can see we are chatting on two threads.

I wrote that I set "All Frequencies" and that's it.
Step by step:
I've connected first Freesat Box (humax) and scaned there - all channels with BBC HD - Perfect. Took the aerial cable from it and connected to my Pioneer Receiver went to Setup -> Digital Tuner Setup -> Installation -> Sattelite Setup then Scan Type set up to All Frequencies (SMATV gave aerial shortcut circuit or something) then Replace Existing Channels and that's it. The scanning started. After it finished I have hundreds of channels but can't find BBC HD.
When I press Enter on the remote control the to sattelite and press tools for search options - select show HD and TV the is nothing coming up - empty list.

Is that correct set of steps? Or am I doing something wrong - Please tell me there is obvious mistake and I can easily redo and fix ;-)

You should also find Luxe HD.

This is what I get when I press the "Enter" button.

First page shown is the favourites page, shows all the channels I've set as favourites.
Pressing the right arrow by the Enter button selects Input, Analogue, digital then Satellite and back to Favourites. Left arrow reverses this list.

With Satellite chosen all the satellite channels downloaded should be listed, just page through them to see if BBC HD is there. The number is 0032 by the way.

I just tried pressing the Search (tools) button and selected show HD like you did, I got the same result as you. First time I've tried that search option and it seemed to be a waste of time so just ignore it. So do not use that search button, just scroll through the list of satellite channels, keeping an eye out for number 0032.

Best of luck.

I knew we'd get there in the end, so happy HD viewing stone28. Your next task is to delete all the unavailable channels like sky etc. Then all the ones you'll never watch and get the number of channels down to a reasonable amount.

My dish is picking up the channels on Astra 2D very well, but I get pixellation on many of the channels on Eurobird.

Can someone give me a tip to improve Eurobird reception?

A very slight movement nudge east on the dish is likely to sort it it out.
