Installing freesat - Is it actually worth getting an HD box?

Hi, gonna get freesat installed at the beginning of may, is it actually worth getting and HD recorder, or just a normal def recorder...... afaik there's only one HD channel, and no plans to put any more on,...... Plus ive only got a 720 TV.

BBC HD and ITV HD (when it's on!) will look amazing, even at 720p. Channel 4 HD will be there one day!

You need to ask yourself if the extra one-off payment is worth it.

There aren't any SD freesat recorders. To get a SD recorder you would have to buy a generic free to air pvr.

Re: Installing freesat - Is it actually worth getting an HD box?

I have got the HUMAX HDR (Freesat HD).

I have to say IMO that compared to SKY HD (which I also have), the Freesat HD offering is very lame. It will be soooooo much better when they finally get Channel 4 HD.

I would say though that the HD PQ on the HDR is awesome!

Ian.

I know SKY HD is much better, but I just cant justify paying £200 (yearly) on top of my tv license for a bunch of stuff I'll never watch.

There is no SD freesat PVR yet - the only freesat PVR is the Humax. There have been no announcements that anyone is developing and SDone either.

There are two HD channels (BBC HD and Luxe HD in non freesat mode) and an interactive HD offering from ITV available on freesat HD boxes. Channel 4HD will at some time come to freesat BUT when no-one has said. At least one other HD service will almost certainly come to freesat after Freeview HD launches - which channel that will be depends on who wins the fourth Freeview slot - at present there are at least two contenders Film 4HD and Five HD.

ITV seem to have got their act together with their HD football content. Thought the MU match yesterday was very good in terms of PQ.

I've got a DM800 which is HD connected to a Sky dish (28E) and another 80cm with a monobloc that picks up Hotbird and Astra 19.2E and I can tell you its well worth it!
