Freesat HD via HTPC (half height)

Hi all,

This may be a bit of a n00b question but I want to make shure I know what I'm talking about before I do anything stupid.

I currently have SKY+ and a HTPC. I'm happy to keep SKY+ as it isn't costing me anything. What I want to do is add Freesat HD to my HTPC. I'm told that I can use the Sky dish for this.

My HTPC is half height and I want to run a 3rd cable from the dish to the HTPC. Is this possible and what do I need for the pc. Also what channels can I get from doing this?

Thanks in advance
Diveboy

Not sure what a HTPC is, assuming it's a PC that accepts cards. You will likely have a quad lnb so all you need is connect to one of the spare lnb outputs. A dvb-S2 card for your computer with the right software will give you BBC HD, ITV HD and Luxe HD.

I'm using a Hauppauge Nova-HD-S2. I think you can get a half height version somewhere (Dell used to sell one).

You will get all the freesat channels, and should be able to get BBC HD and ITV HD.

How do you get Channel 4 in hd?
I've seen this but I'm unsure what a CI Slot is Technisat SkyStar HD2 Bundle: SkyStar HD2 + CI Slot HD2

Seems odd that you can only get ITV and BBC in HD.

Channel 4 HD is encrypted by Sky, but is viewable with a Sky Viewing Card in a Sky box. With a lot of fiddling, you can get a PC with a Common Interface (CI) a card reader (CAM) to view it. You'll also need a DVB-S2 card in your PC. Channel 4 HD uses DVB-S2 while BBC and ITV HD uses DVB-S.
