Humax Foxsat 1080i problem

Hi all

My Dad has a HUMAX FOXSAT and SAMSUNG (720p/1080i - 768x1366) LCD TV - hes been using it fine on 720p for a while - just before he went away for a short break he used the V-FORMAT button to change it to 1080i to try it out and preferred it so left it on that - came back four days later and now only BBC-HD is on perfectly and all other channels seem out of focus... he says pressing the V-FORMAT button now doesnt bring it out of 1080i at all and he also says theres NO OPTIONS in the EPG MENU (settings) to change HDMI OUTPUT (576/720/1080) is this right?

can anyone help with this?

as he lives 350 miles away im unable to go around and look at it...

thanks

He's right there are not any menu options to set the hdmi out scaler settings. The only button you have is vformat, check that he is pressing vformat while actually watching a SD broadcast. If this still does not work I would try a factory reset.

thanks , turns out the relatives were playing with settings when they were out the house - and it was the 16:9 CUT-OUT setting but also my dad doesnt watch TV much and never during day and he was watching a 4:3 old friends program of poor quality and thought it was broken set hehe - just needed 16:9 anamorphic setting..

but the V-BUTTON doesnt do its job???

he can press it a few times and it goes black as if its changing over but then it always says 1080i....??? no mater how many times he presses it?

It sounds as if the TV is telling the foxsat that it only supports 1080i. It's probably a setting on the TV that's caused this.

Original simply means that the incoming signal is output over hdmi without scaling. Eg 576i in 576i out, 1080i in 1080i out. This leaves the TV to scale the picture rather than the stb. Some TV's (Samsung's I believe) don't support 576i over hdmi (only via scart) so the foxsat disables the 576i option if the TV reports to the stb that it's not an available option. Most TV's report what the incoming signal is when the source signal changes.

yeah AUTO changes it to whatever the broadcast is...

like i say he connected via HDMI
the VFORMAT changes through em on BBC-HD only and NOT on any other channels???

- it STICKS on 1080i on all channels

he does have a samsung and it goes on 576 whiulst on BBC-HD (also 720 and 1080i) - but like i say on all other channels it dont... and it should.. so you can choose format for your TV to suite - if he had a 720p set with no 1080i input he would be stuffed?

when he set it up originally it asked what he wanted it on during setup and he chose 720p.... months ago... now this is first time he's went to change it and it went on 1080i but thats it???

All HD ready sets support 720p and 1080i, it's part of the hd ready spec.

On 101 pressing vformat in sequence goes 576i, 576p, 720p, 1080i, original. On BBC HD, the results are the same.

In my case it's BBC1 West Midlands, depending on the post code your dad's may have a different bbc region at 101.
