Wistron WNC Quad LNB

Can I use a Wistron WNC on a slightly oval 65cm satellite dish - not the squashed elliptical Sky ones???

Re: Wistron WNC Quad LNB

It will work BUT is not the optimum design for the dish and will give inferior signal levels and quality compared to a standard fit lnb. I use two such quads on a standard 80 cm dish and get good results BUT merely used them because I already had them.

If you are in a high signal area (Midlands or South UK) it should work satisfactorily BUT in the far north and Scotland you may get "rain fade" (loss of signal in bad weather). If it is a Sky you occasionally may need some surgery to the plastic housing to fit the lnb in a standard 40mm collar.

EDIT just noticed you are also in Oxford - so should work OK as they are designed to give acceptable signal with 43 cm dishes in this area.

Could I ask a question... is a wistron WNC quad lnd a better fit for a televes 80 cm dish in N Ireland os should I use the televes one that has NF of 0.7 dB??

I mean is it a technically better and more suited unit then the WNC

If you read my reply in your other thread it depends on the model number of WNC lnb - they make numerous different models. The most common ones found in this country are those designed for fitment to Sky minidishes which should work on an 80cm dish in N.Ireland in all but bad rainstorms. You have not qualified the model number in the other thread.

I know now that it is an WNC universal quad LND model ff8 10.70-12.75 GHz. You wil see from the attachments wnc is a picture of my neihghbours sky system. He has a wide( I mean east west) dish ans small.Mine is a larger 80 cm Televes dish that is much more rounder. Picture wnc 5 is my lnb.I have the following questions
1) installer should not have used this lnb because it is not really compatible with a round dish??
2) I have only 60% picture quality on stations like th evault and shart show and audi channel for example
3) He charged me £95.00 for this LNB; is this not just a cheap type mostly used in sky set ups?

I greatly appreciate your help on this. I hacve not paid him yet and I want to challenge all of this but I need to know what I am talking about..

1 All the info I can find on that model of lnb suggests it is designed for a "circular" dish and NOT Sky miidishes (although it appears that it has been used on Sky dishes) - previous post referred to in the other thread with a reply from Wistron.

2 Signal quality as measured by digiboxes is NOT directly linked to picture quality in any way as long as it is above a level that the digibox can correct the errors. It is a digital signal and thus either works or it doesn't - there is no drop off in quality of picture until you get to the "cliff edge" of quality and the picture starts breaking up.

3 See answer to number one. I have never tried that particular lnb yet BUT the Wistron/WNC lnbs that I have used have all been trouble-free and of good quality. I have just checked my spare Sky quad lnb (purchased cheap from ebay) which is still in its box as supplied to Sky installers and do indeed find that it is an ff8 model, so yes it is a "cheapy".
