Running Freeview over Virgin Cabling

Gents (and off course ladies) I shall be installing a military spec digital aerial later today and was wondering whether it would be feasible to connect the aerial to the input side of the Virgin cable box, with view of then using the existing Virgin cables to get to the two TV's I need.

Placing aside the fact I may need an amplifier, will this work...basically, is the filter / splitter thing in the cable box compatible with the Freeview signal?

Thanks in advance for any help.

Lee

MODS:- What a tool I am...this is the Freesat thread...could you move (very sorry)

Re: Running Freeview over Virgin Cabling

You can connect the Freeview aerial to the RF in on the Virgin box. You can then distribute the RF out of the Virgin box to the other TVs which will carry not only the Aerial RF but the currently selected channel as well.

The RF however will not go back out the "cable in" coaxial if that's what you're asking.

regards

Brian

Re: Running Freeview over Virgin Cabling

I don't actually have a Virgin box / decoder anymore (I'm with Sky), but I'd like to make use of my freeview decoders in my upstairs and study TV's so I can watch Champions league footie in peace sometimes.

I want to connect the aerial output to the splitter in the external Virgin plastic case thing (where the external cables enter the house) and hope to use the rest of the cabling (which Virgin kindly did some years ago).

My question realy is, is the splitter compatiable with Freeview?

Re: Running Freeview over Virgin Cabling

I see, when you said Virgin cable box I thought you meant a Virgin cable box, not the box on the wall.

The splitter we have here says 5-1000MHz which certainly includes the Freeview frequencies. I'd check what yours says but it will probably be fine.
