Humax PVR archive "no more available storage"

Been archiving a few progs to an external hard disk connected via usb and sometimes the error message "no more storage available" pops up and the file won't copy.
Anybody know what this means? The HD has plenty of space on it.

Sounds like a bug to me. You are aware that you can't save files larger than 4Gb on a FAT32 drive, this does not give your mesage though. Can you eventually copy the file or does this file always give the same error?

Re: Humax PVR archive "no more available storage"

Thanks for the reply graham, i am aware of the fat32 limit of 4gb but as you say pretty sure the file is under this as you get a different error message.
Had the error a few times and i have cured it only once by deleting some files off the external drive and trying again (the drive has 49gb free so is nowwhere near being full). Tried this method on the files i'm trying to copy now with no luck, keep getting the same error message.

out of interest do you what other format of drives (if any)can be connected - ntfs?

You can use Linux EXT3 file system drives and these have a massive large file limit. You need to create a linux boot up cd and boot your PC into linux as described here

Since then I have also used Slax which is a little more user friendly

There are drivers that can access a linux drive under windows but there is a small problem. All the ones that I have tried require the drive to be properly unmounted before windows can read them. The foxsat-hdr does not unmount the drive so you have to boot a pc into linux to unmount it. As linux can use your pc drives directly (including ntfs) you might just as well transfer the files using linux. The slax version I posted a link to includes a gui that looks and acts very like windows file manager. Remember to right click the usb device icon and choose safely remove to unmount the drive after copying.

Re: Humax PVR archive "no more available storage"

Just thought i'd let you know i think i've solved this. I defraged the drive and now the file copies, maybe the humax can't cope with splitting files over the disk.

Got a file over 4gb so just setting up an ext3 partition and linux to do this one.

Thanks for the help

I got this to even though my 16gb stick was FAT and empty. Had used it previously to backup PS3 but had deleted all files.

Reformated stick and then copy on humax worked fine.

Suggest the Humax may be "seeing" deleted files on the stick.
