easy guide to transfer from fresat hd-pvr to disc??

wondering if anyone can point me towards a "childs guide" on how to transfer programs from my Humax hd-pvr hard drive to dvd-r via my pc?
i've got a few programs i would like on disc (to send to a friend outside the UK) i 've seen the usb connection but have no idea how it all works...
i'm trying to avoid pluging in my old dvd recorder into the scart and doing it that way...
cheers

It's going to be hard to write a step by step guide without knowing what software you are going to use, and finding someone who uses the same software. The easiest software for example to use is Video Redo TV suite bit it's expensive and you may already have software that will work Before going any further are the programmes you want to save to dvd in SD or HD format and do you want to edit out commercial breaks?

thanks for the reply...
basically i just want to transfer a SD program onto dvd without taking anything out...
i think the scart out into my old panasonic dvd recorder is looking the most simple way of doing this...i'm hoping theres no macrovision on the program though...

You only get macrovision on commercial tapes and dvd's. It's built into the vcr not the recording. The recording simply switches it on. Broadcast TV can't use it and if they did you could not use a rf connection to watch the picture.

Re: easy guide to transfer from fresat hd-pvr to disc??

Ok.. here's how I did it without spending any money.

I copied the program from media manager (Opt+) button and copied it to a 1Gb USB stick.

This copied 3 files... the main one was .ts

As recommended by others here I downloaded Handbrake and selected the .ts file and converted the file into an .AVI... this took about 20 minutes for a 15 min prog (500Mb)

A lot of DVD players play AVI files... however I also wanted to delete the introduction preamble and some trailing stuff after the core program.

I already had Pinnacle Studio video editing suite so I selected the AVI file and then cut it in Pinnacle studio...

For my daughters sake I repeated this process until I added about 6-7programmes and then created a menu (in Studio) and then burnt it to a DVD format. Job Done.

Obviously if the target DVD player plays AVI files and you don't mind the extras you can dispense with all the Pinnacle Studio stuff and perhaps use Nero or some other DVD burning software.

I will get a portable hard disk at some time in the future so I can make the process more efficient.

Usual caveats apply to some programmes being protected.
