anyone know when humax hdr boxes will be in stock?

I have been looking for one of the humax recorders since just after christmas but they seem to be still out of stock everywhere.
Im not prepared to buy a "new" box from ebay at a hyped price.
I understand that humax are watching ebay due to previous stolen boxes so wouldnt touch any with a barge pole, however dont mind buying a used one, if someone has found it unsuitable.

Does anyone have any idea what date they are likely to be back in the shops?

Curry's did apparently send out all the stock they got to stores (rather than keep them for mail-order like Argos)

The problem with that is each store only got a few and may easily be sold out!

Re: anyone know when humax hdr boxes will be in stock?

Just to update as have had a few offers of humax freesats

I have been given advice from a friend who has bought a freesat reciever from humax direct - he is not satisfied due to the amount of channels and says he would have waited (with hindsight)

Dont usually get advise BEFORE buying its usually after

So have bought a Topfield freeview recorder at a fraction of the price and will sit and wait for channel content to improve and prices to fall

My advice for anyone wanting to sell their freesat unit is sell it now on ebay before prices fall as there is a bit of a feeding frenzy going on due to lack of stock.

Thanks to this forum for advise

Re: anyone know when humax hdr boxes will be in stock?

@ g4jnw,

thanks for the buying advice. My father-in-law had one of these installed at Xmas and I was really impressed, so I was looking to buy but they seem to be out of stock everywhere and they're definitely not cheap.

Is there any word on when the freesat service will increase the number of HD channels available?

Re: anyone know when humax hdr boxes will be in stock?

according to the friend of mine he says he asked this question and was told that channels will be added as and when so not much help, suppose that when analogue has been fully turned off will be the actual date or there abouts.
I do like the hd option but not at the price at the moment - anyway my topfield TF5800 is on its way, it'll do for a year or so until channels improve and more hd channels come online.
At least by then I will have saved a years sky subs

Thanks, I might just keep my sky+ box for a little longer. I'd be more inclined to join Freesat if there was a definite timeline of new channels being added. It all seems a bit vague right now

Re: anyone know when humax hdr boxes will be in stock?

About this time last year, the foxsat setop box was in short supply. Comet (Falkirk) were getting 5/week, delivered Friday.
I suggest that , if you are desperate, you find the delivery day from your local Comet and get there early.

Re: anyone know when humax hdr boxes will be in stock?

You should definitely buy a Humax HD HDR with your eyes open. For me it was about saving my Sky subs and tasting HD without having to pay Sky a sub.

I also looked at my Sky planner, and nearly everything I record is off BBC1-4, ITV, C4 or C5! So for me it was just a case of accepting certain channels would not be there yet (UKTVFood et al), after all it's coming into spring soon and I spend less time watching TV.

I like my TV shows as much as the next guy, but I think we are all becomming obsessed by the need to have endless TV to watch. Go and learn a new skill, play with your kids, do some exercise.

There is a 'stock checker' web site soemwhere in one of the threads (sorry cann't find it at the mo).

No offence intended by any of my comments.

I would call Homebase if you only bought it last week as last weekend they had a 10% weekend (online also) so you may be able to blag some cash back. With the 10 % discount and Quidco it was down near the £260 mark.

Re: anyone know when humax hdr boxes will be in stock?

just looked back at my original post, happy with my topfield 5800 pvr but still watching the humax hdr prices, seems the stock is arriving and prices are falling, when i first looked they were over £300 and now down to £257 so wonder what they will eventually fall to?
I have seen one seller on ebay selling them for just over £220 imported from Poland, thats a suprise with the euro being rubbish exchange at the moment.
Guess when they drop below £200 will buy one.

Re: anyone know when humax hdr boxes will be in stock?

Seriously, I cannot see them falling to £220, never mind sub-£200 and I would be a bit wary of any ebay stock priced at that level.

Re: anyone know when humax hdr boxes will be in stock?

I would have said that a few weeks ago but now not too sure, looking at the feedback from some ebay sellers there are plenty who have received boxes but do wonder where the stock is actually coming from.
I would have thought the mainstream companies would have a good hold on the prices.
Interesting watching the prices and willing to wait, either way have saved a good bit by cancelling my sky+ and not really missed any channels

Re: anyone know when humax hdr boxes will be in stock?

I've raised this before but be careful with such low prices, they are not genuine. It is possible they are buying trade (exc vat) through a business then selling as an individual, but that's not only avoiding paying HMRC, but also then has questionable warranty cover. I posed as a customer with a number of ebay sellers all of which suggested the warranty was with Humax, not them...WRONG!

Humax don't make a habit of lowering their trade price so don't expect a significant drop on the existing prices of around £265.

Hi Ian-d
You pose an interesting point, would the warrantee problem apply to dealers selling via amazon market place as there is one selling new at £257?

The warranty issue would apply to any case where an individual can sell this product, so Amazon Marketplace is no different than eBay. The only way to check for sure is with the seller, asking them who they should contact in case of a fault. If they suggest Humax then think carefully before proceeding as the warranty is with the retailer through the official distributor channels.

The specifically mentioned price of £257 again seems quite low. Not because that price isn't achievable because it just about it, but because Amazon charge their Marketplace sellers between 10% and 15% commission depending on their status, which at that price, reducing the VAT and commission etc would put the price below the trade value...again, question the source of boxes, not all those stolen were recovered.
