what HD format dose freesat and Sky use?

what HD format dose freesat and Sky use?
I am enterested to know what format HD freesat and Sky HD use, is it full 1080 or 720, is it "I" or "P" and is it 50hz or 60hz or even 24hz?

the reason im asking this is because i'm wondering if a bluray recorder can record to that standard without conversion, as i read that bluray dose not support 50hz.

can someone please explain?
