Is Freesat the best way to go - if so - which receiver?

Hi,

I have just cancelled the V+ service at my current address because I am not using it and the price is ridiculous.

The house used to have sky installed and the dish is still up and the cable from the dish is still behind the tv.

The aerial has not been upgraded for years.

As Virgin are turning the TV off tomorrow, I was going to buy a cheap set top box for freeview.

However seeing the sky wire made me think that I should get an old sky box with viewing card (hence my wanted thread in the classifieds for one.)

However I have since read that sky are changing the viewing cards in April, which would leave me without certain channels.

So now i am looking at freesat. I am not bothered about HD yet as still got a CRT here.

Would freesat be plug and play with the satellite dish and lead in situ?

If so, which box is cheapest and works well? I dont need PVR functionality.

Thanks

G

You don't lose many channels these days without a card as the number of ftv channels fall. Currently its Fiver and Five US and a few ITV regions I think. If this is a problem then you can buy a freesat from Sky card for £20.00
