Setanta Sports on Freesat?

I want to ditch my Sky subscription and switch to the new Freesat service. I can no longer justify the dreadful programming on Sky, but with the premiership being so good this year (and being a liverpool fan) I want to have some access to games.

From what I can find out Setanta is not available on FreeSat at the moment. Am I right?

Anyone have any information about whether Setanta on Freesat is a possibility, are they in talks? If this was to happen I would switch tomorrow.

I was looking into getting the Humax FoxSat PVR that has a CI slot for a card. I have been waiting for a PVR that compares well against the SKY+ box, the Humax seems to be it.

Thanks

Re: Setanta Sports on Freesat?

Keep your Sky box (which will receive all channels on Freesat plus a lot more besides), use your expired Sky card as a Freesatfromsky card, which will allow you to get Setanta Sports.

Re: Setanta Sports on Freesat?

Setanta is highly unlikely to ever appear on freesat. NDS the current encryption they use are highly unlikely to ever allow Setanta to multicrypt without very strong proof that the second encryption is highly secure. The last time NDS was hacked was when a channel was multicrypting with an insecure encryption.

Re: Setanta Sports on Freesat?

Or if you buy a TV with built in freesat, like a TX37LZD81, this has a CI slot for a Setanta card. The manual states that Sky cards will not work though (which would be virtually pointless anyway).

The CI slot there is for terrestrial channels NOT satellite channels and is more like those on TopUpTV.

Re: Setanta Sports on Freesat?

Thanks for the responses.

I thought about the FreeSat Sky possibility but cannot cope without sky plus and am not paying sky 10 quide a month just to enable the feature. I want to move completely away from sky to be honest.

Shame about Setanta situation on Freesat. Can't believe they wont work something out though as in a year or twos time their potential market could be massive with freesat.

I'll have to use the rest of the football season to decide what to do.

Re: Setanta Sports on Freesat?

I know they are not your first choice but what about Freeview or VM coverage allowing for both.

Re: Setanta Sports on Freesat?

Yeh, thought about those too. VM is not available in the area so that is out, plus want to avoid the extra costs involved. The lure of BBCHD was the main focus over freeview. Guess I want my cake and eat it.

Why not just get setanta by broadband as it's only £7.99 a month and you can even plug your laptop of computer into your tv , so it;s much the same.

So move completely away from Sky. Doesn't stop you using an old Sky box, with a Sky card inserted in it, for watching Setanta Sports and nothing else. It's your box, not Sky's, even if it has got Sky's name printed on it somewhere. Sky aren't going to be charging you anything, and it doesn't stop you having a Freesat HD PVR as well. They aren't mutually exclusive you know.

Disconnect the Sky box when you want to watch anything else if you can't bear to even see the Sky logo on the box when it's in the living room. Connect it to one of the sat cables going into the Freesat PVR when there's a game on Setanta that you want to watch. And record the game on video or DVD if you want to be able to watch it again at a later date.

Re: Setanta Sports on Freesat?

I still use the Freeview on my Sony HDR and on my Telly to watch the FTA channels (e.g. Sky Sports News) that aren't available on Freesat. I've got a Setanta CAM card loaded on the Telly and that works fine. Not desperately impressed with the PQ, though. Never had Setanta when I had Sky so I don't know if the PQ is better via a dish.

But isn't it nice to have a choice, Mr Murdoch?

I watch setanta via the card slot on the back of my pz81,and even tho the picture is a bit iffy sometimes(why?),it still beats paying Murdoch's empire £40 a month

You're going back a bit, it hasn't been Murdoch's empire since 1990.

The Murdoch family own about 14% of BskyB so they're only getting £5.60 of your money!!

In fact they're not even getting that, just 14% of the profit, which is not a lot.

Sky's last results show their profit was only 1.4% of their turnover.

So Murdoch got 14% of 1.4% of your £40. Just under 8p!!!

Limited bandwidth on the DTT network and footy requires a lot of bandwidth to look respectable on a flat panel which is far more demanding on source quality than a CRT.

Well Sky own a larger percentage of Freeview than the Murdoch family own of Sky shares.

Is this the CI card slot (I have a TX-37LZD81)? See this comment -
