Try asking in our dedicated Freesat forum which is here...at the same time maybe you could be a bit clearer with the "it only has one pin in the sattelite" bit...what exactly are you referring to?

If I am reading this correctly then you have an old dish with a single output LNB installed. This LNB will have to be changed to a Quad LNB which will have 4 outputs available to you. You can then connect Sky to one of the outputs and a new cable will have to be connected between one of the other outputs and your Freesat HD box.

If you do only have a single feed LNB from the dish then try this splitter for £9.99 from Maplins. Be aware that it will have some limitations.*

2-Way Satellite Splitter > Maplin

*One of the outputs has DC pass, and the receiver connected to this supplies power to the LNB. In the case of most systems, this ‘master’ receiver will also select polarity, and thus determine the channels available to the slave receiver. Although an inexpensive method of running two receivers from a single dish, it is not as flexible as a twin LNB which allows two receivers to select channels of either polarity independently.

To be precise the tuner with DC pass will control which of the four bands that the lnb is receiving and the other will only have channels in the same band. It will also have to block 22Khz signalling on the non dc pass input to disable high low frequency band switching. There is also bound to be a degree of signal loss in the splitter which may well mean bad weather will destroy your reception. Strictly a stop gap solution and you could do better using the foxsat tuner 1 rf out facility.

You would be better off with this switch from Maplins. Aerial Switch > Maplin

You can then switch between boxes rather than have a quad lnb, or you could use this to switch between receivers automatically. No need to get out of your armchair to do it. PULSAT - JAEGER SMART PRIORITY SWITCH

Either way - you won't be able to receive different channels on your Sky box and your Freesat box at the same time (i.e. one for watching, one for recording) - unless the two channels happen to both be on the same polarity and frequency. Far better upgrading your LNB to a quad and sticking extra cables in and forgetting these convoluted switch ideas.

I absolutely agree 110%, if you have your own dish and not be stuck on a communal system it's lunacy to spend all that money on stb's and then cripple them for the few quid required for a quad lnb and a few metres of sat grade coax.

Re: running freesatHD with sky

Much depends on how easy it will be for him to fit a new lnb and then run the cable to his box.

If he has no wish to record, or connect to another TV, then a switch is the cheapest and easiest method.
