His problem is how to connect it all up so that he can record Freesat - in other postings I've seen advice about connecting a separate Freesat box, but not a tv with Freesat built in. He lives a long way from me and is not online - I downloaded the Pana manual and this is what I think he needs to do:
1. Connect Freesat cable from dish into satellite socket on TV
2. Connect DVD via Scart to AV2 on tv (and presumably to AV2 on DVD recorder?)
3. Er, make HDMI connection? - but to which HDMI? (tv has 3)
What is concerning me is that C****s Llandudno have told him that he needed a Foxsat-HD box in order to record (it's not the box with an HDD, I've asked my Dad) so he's paid £146 for something I don't think he needs. He/I know that he won't be able to record one channel and watch another due to the single tuner in the recorder.
Am I right? And should he take the Foxsat-HD back to C****s and give them what for?
Many thanks in advance,

First problem if you buy a foxsat-hd is that you need 2 feeds from the dish (quad lnb) one for the Foxsat-Hd and one for the sat tuner in the TV. Given that you have these If you connect the Foxsat TV scart to DVD recorder vcr scart and then the DVD recorder TV scart to the TV. Connect both the Foxsat-HD to a hdmi connection on your TV. Say you use hdmi1 for the Foxsat and hdmi 2 for the DVD recorder. To watch the Foxsat choose HDMI on the TV inputs, to watch the dvd recorder choose hdmi2. To record freesat choose the vcr scart on the DVD recorder as the recording source. If the DVD recorder can record RGB use that for SD recordings. You can't use RGB for HD signals as this is disabled so only way to record HD is over composite (very poor quality). If you have RGB recording best to record a SD version of the programme for best quality.
Without the foxsat you can only record what you are watching on the TV, simply connect one of the TV scarts to your DVD recorder vcr scart (all scarts carry composite video and analogue audio out) and set it to record composite. The TV has to be on and tuned to the freesat channel you wan't to record.
