Freesat cable

In the process of building a kitchen extention and the first fix approaches. I want a tv on the wall in the kitchen and obviously all the cables hidden in the wall. What type of cable do I need to run to the tv for the freesat box or intergrated tv tuner. Is it normal coaxial or, as I suspect, is it the satallite cable like Sky?

Thanks for any help.

The fact that a satellite cable would be required for satellite signal has passed you by how? The clue is in the name "FREESAT" And where do you plan on putting the STB on the wall? Or are you planning on an integrted freesat TV? Sat grade CT100/WF100 should be used for all cabling and provision for an external STB is good practice (you should also run ethernet cable to both the STB point and screen location)

Re: Freesat cable

Easy tiger, just checking.

Hopefully an intergrated TV tuner, not sure if there are any planned by anyone yet, you may know?

STB, going to show my ignorance again, not sure what this abreviation is for? I'm assuming you mean the tuner box? No intention of putting it in on the wall, I'm a neat and tidy install chap, minimum stuff on show.

Why do I need an ethernet cable to the TV?

There are, but probably not at launch & probably not under 32" for a while either (IMO).

If you did have a STB, do you know where you'd put it yet in relation to the TV yet?

Re: Freesat cable

Panasonic PZ81 plasma are due to have a sat reciever according to some, other may folow suit but in the past PAnasnoic Loewe and B&O have all offered this and take up was poor meaning it was alot more expensive than a TV and STB (Set top box aka decoder box) BEst bet is CT100 from aerial to screen and 2xCT100 from dish to cupboard with power and HDMI and scart to screen (or 2 HDMI) this allows for local STB. Ethernet is for future use as VOD (video on demond comes alive) BT vision etc use ethernet and it wont be long i dont think until sky and other servoces start mixing VOD with ehternet the popularty of BBC iplayer shows the need for data to video source locations

Good question, depends how big they are suppose. Some of the freeview boxes are so small now you could get away with a tiny shelf under the tv, but are the Freesat likely to be SkyHD size? I'm assuming its an HDMI link from STB to TV which again I'm happy bury in the wall but the problem is sighting it. No room where the TV is going to go, hence the integrated Freesat tuner would be ideal. 32" is a bit larger than I would like, or indeed need, for the kitchen telly. Not great timing for me really, could do with Freesat being launched last year.

Thanks, all this makes perfect sense, but to be honest its the kitchen telly and is probably a bit overkill. In my main viewing room I've got everything covered as best you can, but for now I think I'll run the satallite cable, and normal coaxial and finish them with a back plate on the wall ready for the telly choice. Maybe freeview tuner built in for now but with the satallite cable there, ready for Freesat intergrated tuner tv's.
