Re: Freeview - Freesat

Freesat = Sky without subscription. Needs a £20 card to get Ch4, Five and Sky 3, and maybe 5Live and 5US. Hundreds of channels mainly shopping.

Freeview = terrestrial digital TV. Less channels but some that are subscription on Sky are free on Freeview.

Get both if you can that way you get the best of both worlds.

Re: Freeview - Freesat

I have Sky and wanted Freeview in the bedroom. To cut a long story short, I went for Freesat. Cost £150, took Sky 5 weeks to come put it in.
I've had it now for 3 weeks and never seen a single thing on it.

"No Satillite Signal"

Well was I unhappy, the guy that put it in didn't even check it, update the software on it or even leave me a remote before he left. I was at work when he came and the wife signed the work sheet.

Go called Sky, after 30 mins they set a date for someone to come and have a look at it. Would have to wait 8 days. I took the day of work to be there.
He came brought a remote waving it in my face when he came to the door.
Next thing he looks at the gear. "I'll need to change the LNB mate." Does that cames back to the box and updates the software. While this is happenning he reaches me the jobsheet and I sign it. "Thats it mate"
I ask him if he's not for staying until the update finishes. "No need mate thats it fixed, I changed the LNB." He can't get away fast enough. I start asking him why it wasn't checked the first time. "Don't know what the other fella was thinkin' mate."

Anyway it didn't work.

I'm gonna cut the short and start a post about this.

Anyway called Sky "Were Sorry" sent someone else out 7 days later.

The guy came, I had another day off cause I wanted to give him some abuse.
"Sorry mate the box isn't working. Don't have any. Call Sky. Sign here."
I don't think so I tell him. What you doing here if you don't have the gear to fix the problem.

Well I didn't sign, sent them on their way and called Sky to came and take the thing out.

Nightmare, still can't believe it.

I guess though I'm the one unhappy customer in 1000 this time?

Re: Freeview - Freesat

Can't understand why you and your wife would sign a job sheet before the job was complete!

Do you sign for parcels as "received in good condition" without opening them? (I don't. I make the b*gger wait till I've looked).

Re: Freeview - Freesat

The wife didn't watch the guy do the work.
When he was finished he came to her and said that that was the work done, please sign here. She had a look and seen the gear but never thought to turn it on. He should have done it.

She believed him, why not. I believed the second guy that came to fix it. When it was updating the system, he told me that that was the job sorted. I thought that it was just something faulty, cause these things should be easy enough fixed.

I do believe that we where wrong for signing the job sheet, but never in a hundred years did I expect them to tell lies. From the very start I now believe that then had installed faulty gear and knew it.

The last guy to come didn't fix it and I didn't sign for it.

I still have the dish, box and card. Sky are trying to sort a date to remove it. I've told them that the only day they can come and take it is a Saturday.

They called back and told me it would be done on Tuesday. I told tell no way.
Then said they couldn't do it on a Saturday until Jan 2007. I said fine. They said I wouldn't get a refund until they get the system. A few days before someone at Sky told me I could.

Haven't heard from them now in 2 days.

If they come on Tuesday, they will be able to get the dish as its outside on the wall, but the box is in the house and nobody will be home. Anyway they were told not to come on Tuesday.

I'm going to leave it a while before I call them. Maybe in a fortnight.

Sick and tired of them. What can you do? NOTHING

Re: Freeview - Freesat

Hopefully, by the time you reach my age, you won't be so trusting of people!

Have you watched the program "Rogue Traders"?
Thankfully, they are not all like that but a large number are just itching to rip you off. I'm always kind and polite but I'm firm, too. I sign nothing without checking. Only the rogues complain.

Re: Freeview - Freesat

All the trouble that I had with Sky Freesat.
Had to call them last week to cancel a removal as it was on the terms I had wanted and to book a new removal. They said they would call back. Never did.
So I called them last night, and they have just returned my call 5 mins ago.
They have put through my refund and told me to keep the Freesat system.

What I'm going to do with it I don't know. The box doesn't work.

Re: Freeview - Freesat

Its an Amstaid. Spell Check.

I have Sky in the livingroom, so once Sky told me to keep it I started messing with it.

I repleaced the box in the livingroom with my Freesat box and its working fine. I've sent my viewing card back and its still picking up the free channels without the card. BBC,ITV Film 4 etc.

The last guy to try and fix it told me the box was broken

Now I didn't know, but you can pick up Sky News without a card and in the bedroom the Freesat Box is picking it up, but as for the rest of the channels its still "No Satillite Signal"

Now I have two Sky dish's, one above the other. There is a tree 15-20meters away from both of them, one dish works the other dosn't.

I'm going to go up to the dish and check the connection and make sure the cable isn't damaged anywhere.

I think I'll just buy a Quad LNB put in on the 1st Sky dish and connect the cable for the bedroom in to it and the that shoud be it, Freesat in the bedroom.

The dish isn't worth much so it will end up in the bin.
