Humax FOXSATHD issue

I just bought Humax FOXSATHD.

The problem is aspect ratio.
I set it to Auto. However, whenever I come across 4:3 it stays wide screen. It is extremely annoying. If there was a button that could toggle between wide screen and 4:3 it would bearable, however the button goes through 5 different settings between wide screen and 4:3.
I paid £150 for the box. I believe it is unacceptable. When I turned the Humax FOXSATHD for the first time it downloaded the latest s/w update.
Any idea how to resolve the issue?
If not, I will contact humax. If they cannot solve the problem, the box will go back.

Thank you in advance,
A.

Auto will only work if your TV supports 'AV info Frame'

Set Display Format to 4:3 Pillarbox, that should solve your problem. An earlier release of software introduced these options.

I will try it as soon as I get home.
Thanks for the tip.

I tried it. It works. Thanks a lot.
Humax freesat stays at home.

How do I know whether or not my TV supports 'AV info Frame'?

One more question

I have 2 HDMI sockets on my TV. Humax works only in one of them. Any idea why it doesn't work in another? It worries me because I am planning to purchase media player and connect it via HDMI. What if my second HDMI is incompatible or something?

Sorry missed this one. Glad it worked for you.

The manual of spec sheet should tell you if your TV supports AV info frame.

Not sure on your HDMI problem, if you are definitely selecting the correct input.

Posting the manufacturer of your TV may help others diagnose the issue.

Don't panic if the second HDMI socket is not working, You can always get a switcher box reasoanbly cheaply if you shop around. I had a similar problem of having 3 HDMI sources (laptop with Blu-ray player, Humax and a camcorder) and only two inputs.

HDMI problem solved.
A classical case of RTFM

One of the two available HDMI is enabled by default, the second one must be enabled via menu settings.
