Foxsat HDR - issues with padding

Just got my new Foxsat HDR having ditched SKY+/HD . Things are quite a bit different around schedules/recordings and just getting used to these.

However one issue is amount of padding it puts at start and end of recordings - in menu set to Auto on both but to be honest does not seem to add any padding at all even when only recording one thing. I know iwht old Sky system would perhaps add 2 minutes before and 5 minutes after. I see option to manually set padding to say 2 minutes but what happens when one recording needs to end just before a new one starts - will we lose last 2 minutes of recording or will new recording just start at exact time e.g. one recording ends at 9pm with 2 new ones due to start at 9pm - how does padding work.

I have also noticed when deleting recording it is veyr slow - a little wastebasket icon or something appears for a while

This is because auto responds to signals that the broadcaster sends to signal the start of the programme and the end of the programme (accurate recording) . If the broadcaster gets these right there is no need for padding. If one programme overuns slightly and the tuner is required for a 2nd recording that has been flagged as starting the box will put up a clash warning until the first recording finishes. In this case you get a failed recording flag on the second, normally this just means you have lost a few seconds of the beginning. File deletion is slow on the hdr as it's doing more than just deleting the File Allocation Table pointers.

Thanks for that - so what is the best option then as it seems stuff on ITV always starts a bit early ! If I add 2 minutes to the start will it not adjust the time at all unless the whole EPG gets updated - e.g. say a sporting event over runs.

How do you run your system - always use AUTO as seems a bit hit and miss so far as keep missing the start/end of things ?

Thanks

Mark

I generally use auto for most channels. For the ones that get it wrong I just add a manual repeating reservation but of course in this case you do have to keep an eye out for schedule changes. Adding time means the box can't adjust itself for late changes as it will have started recording before the change of status flag.
