Where have the 'red button' BBCi channels gone (Stream-1, Stream-2 etc)

I have not been able to receive anything on these channels since before Christmas. I am using a TV-tuner card and dvbviewer, the red button channels used to show up as Stream-0, Stream-1 etc (at 12441MHz). If I re-scan all channels, they are no longer detected.

I understand the beeb has been changing over to iPlayer, I guess this might be the reason why they've gone - which is a pity, as I don't see any way to pick up the red button live streams in iPlayer through a standard web browser.

Has anyone been able to solve this problem?

They did away with most of the Red button channels on Freesat with the exception of the sports multiscreens which you should still be getting. I suspect they are clearing the decks to allow for another HD channel when they can get authority from the Trust and Ofcom (after the World Cup??) to bid for the 5th HD slot on Freeview. They already have too many HD programmes to avoid massive rescheduling and sometimes dropping episodes of series when these sorts of "big events" take over.

BBC iPlayer takes up no bandwidth on satellite. Boxes accessing it now have a new MHEG-5 instruction to check if the box is connected to the internet as soon as the red button is pressed. If it is, it downloads a new front page for the red button service, from the BBC servers rather than OTA, which now includes a direct link to the iPlayer in the 7000s. The BBC software looks like it is in "final beta" phase with them waiting for the last manufacturers to update their firmware to include the new MHEG instructions. They may also be waiting on the formal launch of Freeview HD and the availability of more makes of boxes/TVs so they can launch both services at the same time.

Oh I wouldn't say they have too many HD programmes, that they need another channel.

Looking at the schedule on BBC HD regularly shows that its made up of endless repeats, which are shown over and over again!

Bloody ridiculous when they could put a movie on there every now and then, for family entertainment!

The streams are still broadcast from 2b south (12441V & 11954H) and use PIDs that stop some boxes picking them up as they are FTA all over Europe.

If new FTA HD channels are launched, they'll be on 2d.

Thanks for the information guys.

Derek - do you know the new TID/VPID etc for the red button streams. My old values for stream-0 (on 12441) are: TID: 2038, SPID: 6088, VPID:5000 APID:5001

I would expect to have seen the formula one on them today, but they're still blank.

Is it possible that they are using the DVBS-2 protocol designed for HD?

Unfortunately the DVBViewer software does not suppprt MHEG-5 at the moment.

Here's the tuning info I get from gbpvr (pc software). I think the info you need is probably buried in there somewhere:
