Humax Freesat HDR

Hi,
I have just spent £250 on a Humax Foxsat HDR as even though I live only 3 miles away from the Wales Wenvoe mast, I cannot pick up the Welsh channels (even though I have had a digital arial installed).
The previous occupier of my house had SKY and they left their dish on the side of the house as well as the COAX coming into the house so I just used that.
Anyway, after initial set up it seems that half of the channels say "No or Bad Signal). This includes BBC HD, S4C and most of the regional variations. If I go to Diagnostics it says signal strength is on 100% as well as Picture quality - also on 100%.
Can anybody please offer any initial tips as it seems that I have to return the product and then think of moving to Virgin or Sky, just to get the free channels!!
Moving house is my last resort.

Sorry for the confusion. up until about 1 hour ago, I used FreeView but for some reason, I could not pick up the welsh channels.
Out of frustration I bought the freesat box because I should just pick up EVERYTHING (whilst using the dish and cable that were already there from SKY).
I have plugged in the cable, run setup and it picked up all channels (Radio and TV).
BBC HD is on channel 108 and whilst it tells me what is currently airing on the channel (BBC HD Preview) the picture itself is not shown and I only get a "No or Bad Signal" message. Same thing on my S4C Digidol channel.

I am going to wait until 2pm as the rugby is on HD just to confirm (I initially assumed they turn off the signal until something is actually on).

If I get the same message after 2pm, there is definately a problem.

NB - I just checked my FREEVIEW box and the S4C channel is actually working so why doesn't it work on Freesat?

And also, I can't get ITV2 but I can get ITV2+1. Can't get ITV4 but can get ITV4+1. Can get Channel 4 but not Channel 4+1
Hair pulling time

Channel 108 should have a picture all the time - even if it's only "preview" programming. As regards, the Welsh channel - presumably you put your postcode in when installing the Humax,

The problem may be that the dish has moved a smidgin - but it seems odd that it should just be the BBC HD channel that's affected. You might try downloading it in non-Freesat mode - the frequency etc are here - Search Results for - KingOfSat

By the way, for full functionality from the HDR it should have two feeds from the dish - though it can work quite well with one, if you follow the instructions carefully.

To me, the instruction manual only suggests you can have 2 dishes, not just 2 feeds from 1 dish.

You can have either, generally it's connected to two outputs of a quad lnb. If you have only a single lnb connect tuner 1 out to tuner 2 in

OK, I need to go out and buy a small bit of coax cable by the look of it then - is it just called a loop back?

Or even just buy 2 connectors and cut off a bit of the existing cable?

Right, just got back from the shop, cut of a piece of coax, put the coneectors on either end, ran cable from Line1 Out and into Line2 In.
Doesn't make any difference whatsoever. As far as the question of the dish being moved ever so slightly, why can I receive channels at all if I can't receive HD channels? Also, of the channels I do pick up, the signal and pic quality is both on 100%

I just don't get it. Very frustrating though!

A freesat box just like a sky box needs to be able to recieve signals from two orbital locations, Eurobird 1 at 28.5E and a group of satellites (Astra2) at 28.5E. If the dish is not aligned correctly or there is a problem with the lnb or the coax connections then there will be some channels you can't get.

First thing to do is do a factory reset

If you want itv 1 channels that your postcode does not proviide you can add any that are free to air using non-freesat mode.

Its OK now. I am putting this down to a loss. I have packed it back in the box and will return tomorrow and will probably at some point just join SKY. I don't want to but its either that or moving house.
All this just so I can watch some poor quality magners league rugby on a friday night - I don't know why I bother sometimes

If I do join sky, will they put up a brand new dish on my house and leave the existing one there?

Not really my business - but I think you may have given up on the Humax HDR & on Freesat rather prematurely.

I guess that Sky wouldn't bother giving you a new dish if the old one is sufficient to receive signals from the relevant satellites - but hopefully the engineer would make sure the dish is oriented & cabled correctly.

That's because they are two totally different things.
It wouldn't - as Geofbob said "for full functionality from the HDR it should have two feeds from the dish" - that's each one direct from a separate LNB on the dish.

Sounds to me like the LNB is not switching between Vertical & Horizontal polarity. That usually causes a loss of random channels. You could have kept the foxsat and simply had the LNB changed for about £20 + fitting.

Just because theres a dish on the wall dos'nt mean it works, sounds like dish alinement or LNB fault.
