BBC HD aspect ratio Panasonic G10

I've just installed a dish to receive Freesat HD on my Panasonic G10. I can't help but notice that the screen size or aspect ratio on BBC1 HD just looks slightly odd. Like the people on the screen look a bit squished up or there is a slight crop.

Has anyone else noticed this?

The screen

Surely if the picture was cropped, the people would not look "squished up" - are you sure you have the correct aspect ratio set on the TV?

I had it set to Auto - but also tried all the default aspect ratios.

I'm wondering if there is a difference between the resolution of the screen and the resolution of the transmission, and whatever scaling being done is making it look funny.

Judging by the (lack of) responses, I suspect it might just be me who sees this.

You need to watch the BBC HD Preview loop test card which is transmitted about 10 mins before the hour. It has triangles at the edge and if your TV is set up right the points of the triangles will just touch the edge of the display. (Look for an option in the menus to turn off overscanning - it might be labelled full pixel or similar)

Alternatively download this 1920 x 1080 frame grab of the test card and stick it on a SD card and put it on your screen

4shared.com - photo sharing - download image HDtestcard.jpg

Checked the online manual, the option you want is Setup Menu/Other Settings/Picture Overscan - OFF
