How should I setup Diseqc on multiple receivers ?

I don't understand how Diseqc works, and haven't been able to google an answer.
We have a 3 flat house with 2 dishes (28.2 & 19.2) with 4 feeds each to a switch box. The 3 flats have 2 or 3 connections each from the 8 switch box outputs.
When I am tuning the receivers in each of our rooms (depending on the receiver), I can choose Diseqc 1/2/3/4, or Diseqc 1.2, or SMATV a/b/c/d or tone a/b.
Now does each receiver in the house (possible 8) have to use a different Diseqc channel ? And if someone uses one already in use, is it now going to work ?

Would be nice to understand what's going on....

Possibly need a bit more info than that.

It sounds as though you have 2 Quattro LNBs, connected to a 9 in 8 out Multiswitch.

Satellite signals are transmitted on 2 polaritys and 2 bands, making 4 possible combinations, Vertical High (VH), Vertical Low (VL), Horizontal High (HH), and Horizontal Low (HL).

A normal LNB will switch between these by the reciever changing the voltage, and a turning on or off a tone. A multi switch and Quattro works in the same way, but because the outputs of the Quattro are locked to VH, VL, HH and HL they are always available. So any or all recievers can be looking at the same band and polarity on the same satellite. (the same channel)

The Multiswitch also acts as a DisEQc switch to switch between the two satellites. The settings should be either as A and B, or, 1 and 2. DisEQc 1.0.

Hope that clears it up. If not you'll have to give more details on exactly what equipment you have.

So with 2 satellites connected, each tuner should be set up Diseqc 1 for sat 1 channels, and Diseqc 2 for sat 2 channels ?
So each tuner can (& should) use the same Diseqc channels as all the other tuners ?
(sorry, I need my hints with a concrete post)

Yes thats correct, the setup for each reciever is the same. DisEQc A or 1 for the first dish and B or 2 for the second. Be sure to set DisEQc 1.0 if the recievers give you the option.
