Networking Foxsat HDR to PC

I'm interested in connecting the Foxsat directly to my PC so that I can transfer media files to the former.

I've searched the forums for info on this but the results are either about ethernet connection for BBC iPlayer or transferring files via the USB. The problem I have with the latter is that my external drive is NTFS formatted which the Foxsat won't recognise.

Has anybody tried to connect the ethernet directly to the PC network card and got them communicating?

You cannot do this.

There are no "servers" within the HDR (eg: FTP) that are accessible via the network port.
The only ways to extract video to your PC are via external USB drive/stick, or physically removing the internal disk and connecting it to your PC.

The Ethernet port only functions for iPlayer (and ITV Player "soon")

Humax announced they will release a networkable HDR version 2 sometime this year.

The HDR is a linux server that could do FTP but Humax have said they won't spend the time to enable it on the HDR v1 .... BOOOOOOOOOO

Why in this day and age are these manufacturers releasing kit with USB on it - USB is rubbish, we don't want it, make it go away.
