How do I find the BBC HD channel

I've got my Freesat tv and I'm connected to the dish. I've got the winter olympics on which is on BBC2. I'm switching between freesat and freeview and the picture quality is identical. Am I doing something wrong or can I only get BBC1 in HD.

Ok found it, channel 108, still not sure if there is any difference though. Should the difference be really obvious, what I'm getting is very disappointing.

Please specify your equipment and which transmitter you're receiving.

Panasonic V10, satellite is communal so no idea on that. Live in Southampton but don't know the transmitter. Sorry if not helpful but new to this.

As regards satellite, it doesn't matter too much where you live in the UK, so long as the dish is pointed in the right direction & I'm sure your communal dish is.

What you're really reporting is that you get such excellent Freeview SD reception that you can't tell the difference between it & HD! In fact, the answer probably lies in the screen size of your TV & how far from the screen you sit. There's another live thread on this in another forum - & it seems that if your screen is around 32", & you sit about 8 ft from it (which is usual), then you many not detect much difference between SD & HD.

Unhappy

It's a 42" and the viewing distance is 8 feet. Another thing I never realised is that the BBC HD channel actually has repeats of normal programmes repeated in HD. For example last night on BBC1 the new series of Damages started but not in HD (at least not advertised as such) and is repeated tonight in HD on the HD channel.

Which leads me to another question. In my tv guide on Friday it lists Jonathan Ross on BBC1 in HD. I'm guessing that if I watched BBC1 it wouldn't be in HD, I'd have to watch it on the HD channel. Confused again

Yes. You only find the HD version on the HD channel.

Start getting used to watching programmes on BBC HD at a totally different time - even different day - to what they are normally on when on BBC 1 or 2.

Radio Times gives BBC HD a section of its own.
It's meant to carry a selection of original programmes, and programmes from all its other channels.

I get TV & Satellite Week magazine. £1.30 and covers Sky/Virgin/Freeview/Freesat stuff okay. HD Channels are in a seperate section for each day.

I don't believe it does.

In fact, I am sure I read somewhere that its charter requires that it does not broadcast anything before it has been broadcast on a 'regular' SD channel and that the schedule should be drawn from across the BBC’s other television channels
