Humax Foxsat HDR and Belkin F5D7330 Wireless Gateway

Hi,

Has anybody experience of using a Belkin F5D7330 Wireless Gateway or similar device with a Humax Foxsat HDR or similar?

I've recently purchased a F5D7330 to connect to my HDR in readiness for the iPlayer launch next month. I'm having problems getting it to work and the problems only occur when the HDR is connected to the F5D7330. My laptop works fine when connected to the F5D7330.

I've found that the F5D7330 will reboot and lose its wireless settings when it's plugged into the HDR. If I put a 10/100 switch between the F5D7330 and the HDR it stops rebooting and losing settings but the HDR won't get a DHCP address from my wireless router. If I fix the address of the HDR I can't ping it from my PC (which is wired to the router) or my laptop (plugged into the 10/100 switch on the other side of the wireless bridge). I can ping the F5D7330 from both laptop and PC.

It looks, to me, like the HDR maybe at fault, but I can't understand why. Does anyone know of any incompatibilities between the two? I think I've tried everything but can anyone suggest anything else to try? Could the problem be due to the fact that Humax haven't opened up the Ethernet port fully yet, or they've restricted its functionality?

Thanks in anticipation for your comments.

Matt.

Humax & F5D7330

Matt,

It's taken me a while, but I got my Humax Foxsat-HDR to work with the Belkin F5D7330. It works OK with my encrypted wireless network and iPlayer. (We've used it a couple of time now).

1. I set the F5D up with the Network SSID and encryption key and switched it off.

2. I connected the Humax directly to the router (Netgear DGN2000) to connected it to the Network.

3. a. Switched the Humax off.
b. Connected the F5D.
c. Switched the F5D on then the Humax.
And if like magic it connected.....

What I can't do is connect the TV, Blu-ray player and Humax to the network through a switch.

I'm thinking about buying a Netgear XAVB1004 nad connecting over the mains.

Let me know how you get on.

Steve.

Humax Foxsat HDR and Belkin F5D7330 Wireless Gateway

I also have a Humax Foxsat satellite receiver and saw the BBC iplayer beta announcement on channel 999. As a previous NTL/Virgin subscriber the thing my wife misses the most is iplayer on the tele. I bought the Belkin F5D7330 just to do the job as my wired network connection is not within reach.

After hours I cannot make it work.

I have an encrypted network using WPA2/PDK and AES and I can make the belkin work fine from my laptop but when I plug it into my humax the wireless LED goes out. I've tried DHCP or a fixed IP address on the humax and various settings on the belkin for DHCP or fixed IP address but nothing works. I can literally unplug the ethernet from the back of the humax and plug it into my laptop and it works but then switch it back and it does not work.

I cannot see why this is the case - any ideas I'd really appreciate it.

Perhaps you could try a wireless bridge like this one if you cant get it working over wired: Wireless G Ethernet Bridge: Amazon.co.uk: Electronics & Photo

Effectively this is what I've already done. I thought the Belkin FSD7330 would provide wireless to my foxsat in the same way as it does for xboxes - unforunately I cannot make it work with the foxsat although it works fine with a laptop.

Another way is through homeplugs: Solwise 85Mbps HomePlug Ethernet Adapters - Twin Pack: Amazon.co.uk: Electronics & Photo
These are one of the cheapest around

I finally got this to work. You can see how and my impressions of it at Humax Foxsat satellite receiver and Belkin F5D7330 Wireless Gateway | martin-evans.me.uk

Hope this helps others going down this path.

Thanks, I knew about homeplugs but a) my router is on a different circuit in my house and I wasn't confident it would work and b) I have no more lan ports left to use in my Cisco (4 used already). This is why I went down the wireless route. As you'll see in my other post, I've now got this working.

Thanks Martin, do you mind if I link to it or copy the information onto my site?

Welcome to the new site for owners of the first Freeview HD Box on the market (everythinghdfoxt2)

very rushed out and nasty at the moment but I am about to do a makeover with a proper domain name over the course of the next month.

If it worked with the iPlayer on a satellite system, it should also work on a Humax Freeview HD to enable networking.

Smile Humax Foxsat HDR and Belkin F5D7330 Wireless Gateway

I got the Foxsat to work with the F5D7330. There seem to be no problems.

The main thing that I had some difficulty with is that the F5D defaults to IP address 192.168.2.225 and my home network is on 192.168.1.x

So I had to change the IP address of the F5D (and the gateway IP), to be in range of my network. Otherwise the rest of the setup was straightforward.

It seems a good solution to having wireless connection.
