To Change or not to Change
I have a Humax PVR which works fine on Freeview. My TV is a Tosh CRT which is great but not HD ready.
I am looking to replace the PVR so that I can give it to my daughter.
Should I go for Freesat (probably Foxsat) as a replacement for future proofing, or buy a new PVR for freeview?

Thanks Mike but that "bulky CRTV thing" gives me a great picture, better than some flat screens. Also I don't have the money to do both at the same time.
Seems I would lose Dave too so no old QI's or Top Gear ))

Whatever you do, do not buy an expensive freeview PVR now.
If you want HD in the future you will then have to go and buy another PVR.
My advice would be get freesat. It is already established and proven to be working. The hardware is developing and being updated. There is already HD on it at a better quality than freeview will do, and there will likely be more channels by the time you comne to buy a HDTV.

Surely this is not just about money?
Freesat boxes are still at the MkI stage so, in five years time, when my TV will need to be replaced I can expect a lot more for my hard earned.
A close look at the available channels reveals little extra on sat that I would want and I would lose Dave.
On the other hand sat is the shiny new technology and, since I am going to spend some money anyway, should I be keeping up?
There is another alternative - I could stick with what I have and buy my daughter a new PVR. (sat is not an option for her).

If you're not enamoured with the satellite channel lineup, OK, but don't buy a brand new Freeview PVR with Freeview HD just around the corner.
If necessary to buy something now (for you daughter or you), how about a Grade "A" Managers Special 9150T from Humaxdirect?
BTW, I've got both FreeSat/View+ machines for the best of both worlds.
Rgds.
Les.
