Freesat broadcast resolution

I am considering buying the Humax Foxsat HDR pvr.

Initally for SD use.

However, I have read that Freesat SD is broadcast in a lower resolution of 544x576, as opposed to the 704x576 of Freeview?

Is this true?

If so what is the impact on SD pictures?

A few are, yes.

In particular, the ITV regions, but if you choose an Exeter postode, you get ITV1 West Country at the full resolution and very high bitrate, the effect is almost HD. How long this will last though is up for debate. It was only supposed to last until W.Country DSO, but here we still are.

Rgds.

Just to add to Les's explanation they aren't freesat SD pictures they are the same pictures you get on any sat box. Sky, Freesat or generic fta and it's not just resultion that's awfull it's very low bitrates . Unlike a sky box though freesat boxes let you choose which ITV 1 region you want to watch.
