Foxat HDR Cutting Off Recordings

In the last week I have had three BBC recordings cutting off a couple of minutes from the end. This rarely happened before.
Has anyone noticed an increase of this problem or is it just coincidence?

What a coincidence! lol

I'm in Stirlingshire as well. I have had the same problem with my HDR.
I have my recordings set up to add - I think its 5 mins to the start
and end times, because it was getting to be a bit annoying.

Edit: Have you got any specific views on STV - should it go HD on the EPG?

Q1. It will be annoying if it continues.
On the other hand, searching through extra recording would be equally annoying.

Q2. As STV are almost bust, I cannot see any improvement coming.
I have had HD for over a year now and as I get good DVB quality I don't normally bother with it. Very disappointed with HD "roll out" generally though.

Also, the programs that STV did not buy are easily recorded off other ITV regions. So no loss there

Thanks, mate for your reply.

[I, was hoping you would show some interest, with regard to STV going HD on the EPG to get my thread up and running again] only joking

That aside, you refer to searching through extended recordings. Its not too much of an issue mate, as you just press a key twice on your remote, to take you, roughly to the start of the program.

I agree with you, about the lack of HD channels - but Freesat at present, has the upper hand. The Humax HDR allows you to record in HD without
paying a yearly subcription.

I have to defend STV as they are investing heavily in production costs at the moment. They broke away from the ITV network some time ago.
They prefer to keep their Scottish indentity as a broadcaster, whilst contributing to ITV. [ you're in the same tv region as me so you know all this anyway] What makes you think they are going bankrupt?

Back laterz I need my caffeine lol

Bankrupt may have been an exaggeration, but recent poor financial reports citing reduced advertising income seem to have resulted in the latest economies. (No HD development, not purchasing network drama, news cutbacks)

But all this does not answer my original question.

Which BBC progs were they, on which channels, on what days?

Do you use Recording Start/End Time = Auto in the settings (Accurate Recording), or do you have n mins set for Early/Late (Autopadding) ?

The only very few I have had recently finishing early, using Accurate Recording, were a couple of C4 progs. C4 are known for doing this, as well as messing up Series Links, but not normally BBC.

Rgds.

Hi Les

The most annoying was Jools Holland on Tuesday, then "Small dark Places", a short BBC HD film on Wednesday. The other, which was a BBC film, I have delete and was earlier in the week.

I am currently set to auto. (Reluctant to pad, but may have to think about that.)

I didn't record either of those programmes, so can't say whether it happened to me or not, sorry.

I would be reluctant to pad, as well. I did some tests with a poster on DS a while ago comparing the Accurate Recording performance of various boxes on Freeview and the HDR on Freesat. The Freesat/HDR implementation came out as very accurate and stable. Since then, I found on one of the Jamie Oliver series, and another I can't remember for my wife, both on C4, cut off regularly the first 2 weeks, so I set up a manually repeating timer for these, and complained to C4.

It's odd for the BBC, though, and I do record quite a bit on BBC HD without problem.

I'd ping an email to the BBC and complain about early cutoff on those programmes on Freesat using Accurate Recording, and monitor the situation.

Rgds.

Thanks for you reply.

It's missing the end of a 2hr film that I worry about.
And the implication, from the family, is that it is my fault

I have noticed a lot of recordings starting early (before the credits of the previous programme) on BBC HD using AR, so I guess they have their signals out of sync.

eg: Sarah Jane has had about 90 seconds of the previous show before it.

I cannot confirm if it stops early, as I stop before the spoilers for the next show come on, but it is usually 29 minutes long, so I expect it does stop early.

They have a complaints page with a phone number, address, or complaints form that takes you through a series of questions etc.

with regard to the "Pad" references, I note some reluctance to use this and wondered why that is?

Thanks

Depends on your recordings philosophy and point of view.

For me, I record quite a bit of concurrent and consecutive 2 channel recordings from 1900-2300 ish. Autopadding would create too many clashes for me caused by the overlaps. Also, ITV HD didn't used to work too well with Autopadding, and ITV seem to add their own internal programme "padding" to their HD programmes. And, lastly, if the EPG schedule changes, you have more chance of catching it with AR, as AP will not take account of it at all.

I'm happy with AR, and accept the very occasional hiccup caused by the broadcasters. Even when there is a hiccup, often no actual programme content is lost with all the idents, previews, adverts, sponsors messages padding things out (If you'll pardon the pun).

That's my take on it.

Rgds.

Les.

Just had a strange occurence recording Pinky & Perky on BBC HD - first episode in my newly-set series link, default recording parameters i.e. auto. Now this is only a 10-minute show, but just by chance I noticed it was still recording after 22 minutes! Stopped it manually, played the recording - sure enough P&P was finished 12 minutes into the recording. Never had this before, have now set up a series link for BBC HD Eggheads - currently recording, will see what happens.

On the subject of shows starting early/overrunning without amending flags, by far the worst offender seems to be the Channel 4 stable. Flags never work, the recording always starts & ends at exactly the advertised times although the actual previous show is still running 2-3 minutes into the advertised start of the current show. Hopeless. ITV 1, BBC 1, 2, 3, 4 & BBC HD are all reasonably good - as is Five in the evenings. I have seen problems with E4, More 4, ITV 2, 3 & 4. A prime example is Numb3rs which was on (IIRC) at 9pm Wednesday on ITV3 (until it vanished a few weeks back ) - every time I tried to get this recorded (not to mention Life which followed), bloody Monarch of the Glen overran into the first FIVE minutes!

Why can't they sort this basic issue? Channel 4 is a prime PSB & the flags have never worked since I got my Foxsat back in July.

Damn, my Eggheads series link has just overrun too, stopped it manually 8 minutes after finish time. Anyone else try a series record of the next show on BBC HD to confirm problem?

EDIT: I see the next thing up is CIN, so forget it lol
