Freesat red button lark on freeview?

Surely this article is wrong:

Computer Shopper: News: BBC announces timetable for Freeview HD

Quote:
Initially there only will only be two HD channels available, BBC HD and ITV HD, with the latter only available as a red-button option for some programmes. However with the best of the BBC's and ITV's content, there will be plenty to watch in HD.

Some expert he reckons you can get it on a PC. DVB-T2 PC cards will likely be the last thing you can buy. In the short term the decoder chips will be going to stbs.

Personally I cannot see any reason why you would need the red button on a terrestrial system. It only exists on Freesat in an effort to restrict viewing to the UK because it's on a Europe wide Eurobird 1 transponder and the usual fix (encrypted but free to view) is not usable on a fta only box. There are no such drm problems with a terrestrial based transmission.

And this early report when testing was starting indicated that it would be a dedicated simulcast channel.

Rgds.

The general view of this thread may well be right, & ITV HD may be on a dedicated channel. But on the other hand, you could question why the BBC has its primary access to extra programmes via the red button, rather than simply directing viewers to channels 301 & 302.

I believe the BBC are not "allowed" to have any more channels (don't know if that is decided by BBC Trust or OFCOM).
The 301/302 is just because that is the only way to get red button content on Freeview.
Their use is not officially encouraged.
